The Physio Centre recognises that Sports Therapists are specialists in soft tissues and acute injuries, and are able to assist with a range of conditions including back pain, neck pain, headaches, joint pain, sprains and strains, just to name a few. Our Sports Therapist/Massage Therapist also recognises the need for prevention of injury recurrence.

Sports Therapy
Sports Therapists assist people with movement disorders, focusing on management and prevention of injuries/conditions to ensure the individual returns to their daily activities pain free. Sports Therapists use thorough postural, strength and flexibility assessment to help find the problem and educate you what it is and how to manage it. Despite the name 'Sports Therapy', these practitioners provide their services to people of all ages, gender, physical health status and occupations with a wide range of massage and exercise prescription.
Sports Therapy can help repair damage by speeding up the healing process and reducing pain and stiffness with a wide variety of treatments to assist in your recovery, and will include education and advice, while continuing to monitor your progress.

Remedial/Sports Massage
Massage involves the practice of manipulation of soft tissues and plays an important role in the treatment and ongoing management of soft tissue injury. Our experienced massage therapists can relax muscles, improve circulation, decrease stress, relieve cramps or spasms, alleviate pain, improve flexibility and enhance general well-being.

Dry Needling
Involves the insertion of a solid, filament needle, as is used in acupuncture, usually inserted into a specific area of tension known as a myofascial trigger point. These trigger points can refer pain and upset the equilibrium of muscle tissue. Dry needling these sites helps to deactivate and resolve these trigger points, which in turn results in a reduction in pain.

Relaxation Massage
Relaxation massage is a soft and gentle type massage designed to calm the nervous system which alleviates stress, muscular pains and discomfort, improve circulation and enhance general overall health. So if you are holding some tension or simply haven’t pampered yourself in a while, then book yourself in for a refreshing relaxation massage today..

Myofascial Release (MFR)
The body is made of different types of tissues which group and correspond with each other. These are called ‘Fascial Lines’. MFR focuses on using a dry massage type approach to release tension in muscles, improve circulation and stretching muscles and overlying fascia (connective tissue). Foam rollers, stretches and acupressure balls may be used for MFR.

Cupping
The skin and soft tissues are drawn into suction cups under negative pressure to provide blood flow to the area which promotes healing. Different techniques, such as dragging the cups, are used to breakdown scar tissue formed on muscle fibers. Cupping may cause some surface bruising, as toxins are released from the inside out - handy tip: The more hydrated you are, the less you will bruise.

Joint Mobilisations
Passive movement of a skeletal joint which stretches and promotes a lubricating fluid through the joint to increase its range of motion. Joint mobilisations are classified in grades I-IV, each of which refers to the range of motion of a joint during the treatment. (Please note that manipulation of a joint is classified as “Grade V” and Sports Therapists are unable to perform this. Please notify your therapist if this is the treatment you are after).
