I am getting ready to launch a few new Pilates classes in the next month or so. The aim is to create classes for people with differing needs and goals.

So here is one with a difference; think Wellness instead of Fitness. This is a class aimed at making you feel the best that you can. Bring your fears, bring your restrictions and limitations, and let's work around them together in a small group. It's still Pilates but without the gym setting and all the pressure to perform that goes with that.

Pilates gets your mind in tune with your body.

With an emphasis on alignment, breathing and core conditioning, PILATES is a safe and effective way to stretch, strengthen and streamline your body without building bulk or stressing your joints. It is the perfect complement to cardiovascular exercise, sport, rehab and life. Practicing PILATES will leave you looking toned, feeling strong and connected to your body.

By emphasizing proper breathing, correct spinal and pelvic alignment, and complete concentration on smooth, flowing movement, you become acutely aware of how your body feels, where it is in space, and how to control its movement.

The Pilates Springboard

Check out this new piece of pilates equipment developed by Ellie Herman. The springboard is inspired by Joseph Pilates' original equipment, the Cadillac or Trapeze Table. Springs and a roll down bar attach to a board mounted on the wall, allowing you to do many of the exercises normally performed on the cadillac. Experience the Springboard in a one-on-one session.



About Lydia

I have a B.A. in Psychology and Modern Dance. A strange combination I used to think, but now it makes perfect sense.

I have been teaching pilates for 12 years and am fully qualified in both mat and equipment work. My thorough grounding in anatomy and movement analysis ensures that you receive a safe effective workout. I am happy to work with your practitioner where appropriate for the best possible result.

Dancing is my passion and I see PILATES as an extension of my love of movement. Sharing what I have learned is a pleasure. I try to make sure we have occasion to laugh - the best way to release tension and progress with ease.

I am a transplanted New Yorker by way of New Zealand and have recently relocated to Brisbane.



Ways to practice

Mat classes are deliberately small, limited to a maximum of between six and eight people, depending on the venue. That way you are ensured the close personal supervision that PILATES is known for. The classes are one hour long, cost $25 per class and are booked and paid for in advance in blocks of eight sessions. I supply the mats, all you need to do is turn up.

Private sessions are one-to-one and give you the ultimate tailored workout. It’s especially useful when you are recovering from injuries or want to fast-track your progress. Private sessions cost $80 and are an hour long.

Private sessions in your home are also available, whatever the reason. Price available upon enquiry.

Corporate mat classes are another option. Have you got a suitable space? Why not organize a small group of your own. Price available upon enquiry.
