We have a variety of classes available both in the Park and in a studio one block from Scarborough State School.
Sunset Yoga Redcliffe
Accompanied pets and children are welcome to come along to Sunset classes in Endeavour Park for free. Teenagers and concession card holders just $5 and $10 for others.
If it is not raining we are in the park. If it is really awful I can accommodate a number of people at my home so you can still complete your practice relaxing to the sound of the rain on the tin roof.
Yoga is excellent for avoiding injury by strengthening and improving flexibility - few of us could touch our toes when we started, but now can. My back pain is gone when I practice regularly because my core is strong enough to support any injured areas.
Classes are at a slowish pace with the focus on feeling where you are in the pose and adapting it for yourself. Our joints are all built differently and have different ranges of motion. It is a personal practice with different options offered for different people because we are all individuals. Yoga is non-competitive so there is no need to compare yourself to others, or even yourself of different days. Never move into pain or discomfort. It is important to keep yourself safe by adjusting your practice for your bone structure, joint construction, muscle tension and state of mind.
Classes focus on bringing you out of your mind into your body. To leave your mind alone to relax and reset leaving you ready for the everyday again.
Paying it forward
10% of Sunset Yoga class fees go to Peninsula Animal Aid to help the animals that the awesome volunteers are caring for here on the Peninsula.
While the yoga provides us with a moving meditation, we also have a more traditional meditation option.
On Fridays during the 9:15am yoga class and 1st & 3rd Wednesday nights of the month 7:15pm we hold a relaxation and meditation class one block from Scarborough State School. Wednesday's meditation is run on a pay-what-you-can system. No judgement.
First Wednesday of the month: This one hour relaxation takes you through 4-6 different meditation styles. Classes included breathing focus, mindfulness meditation, positive affirmations, yoga nidra (directed relaxation), and other techniques to make you more mindful, remove focus form negative thought patterns.
Third Wednesday of the month: This class is a silent meditation. There is walking meditation and zazen (zen meditation). Explanations and a breathing exercise are provided at the start of class.
There is a cup of (caffeine free) tea after each class to help you refocus before driving home.
