What is The Sally Low Method?

Do you suffer from pain that causes discomfort or immobility? Let Salamander Centre for Feldenkrais & Creative Dance in Newport VIC assist you to move and feel better through its application of The Sally Low Method.

A unique solution to reducing pain and improving your range of motion, The Sally Low Method is a combination of physiotherapy, Feldenkrais, neuroplasticity and play theory. It does not carry out a standard procedure for treating pain, but instead adjusts the modalities used to meet the specific needs of your body and produce the best results.

This treatment method was developed by our founder Sally Low, a physiotherapist who holds expertise in the Feldenkrais Method and qualifications in neuroplasticity and movement concepts. She has worked for various clinics, hospitals and rehabilitation centers specialising in Pain Management.

The Sally Low Method is an offshoot of Sally’s 40 years of providing assistance to people recovering from various injuries that limit their movement. She integrated a range of helpful modalities into her way of working, including:

  • Feldenkrais Method
  • Physiotherapy
  • Neuroplasticity
  • Hydrotherapy
  • Dance Therapy
  • Psychoanalytic Thinking
  • Play Theory

How Does The Sally Low Method Work?

Sally will first identify the root of your injury or functional disorder before guiding you through a movement program that is tailored to your specific needs, medical history, lifestyle and interests. She believes that building your strength and inner faculties is key to your quick recovery.

During your treatment, Sally employs mindfulness to show you how to be more aware of your body. She takes you through comfortable movement patterns to reduce your pain and improve your mind and body coordination.

Based on her past experience with some clients, Sally acknowledges the fact that some people may get bored easily with the program. So she incorporated elements of play, curiosity and recreation to inspire her clients to boost their flexibility, strength, coordination and function.

Having worked in clinical and hospital settings before, Sally is adept at providing injury diagnosis. She can help you understand the results of the medical examinations you may have taken and guide you towards improving your health and wellbeing.

Sally gives her clients enough leeway to explore how they want to heal their bodies through The Sally Low Method. Some of them may prefer manual therapy, others may want to work independently with guided instructions, and there are those who prefer to work in groups. In fact, Sally has clients who like to work with water, hence her hydrotherapy services.
