What is Bowen Technique?
Thomas A. Bowen, born in Geelong, Victoria, Australia in 1916, started his career by working with junior football clubs as a masseur and treated the general public at home after hours. He quickly discovered that he had what can only be described as an extreme hypersensitivity of the fingers and hands, which apparently enabled him to feel nerve transmission and consequently find blockages in the nervous and muscular systems. He became famous throughout his career for being able to cure the incurable, and find solutions when none seemed possible.
“Bowen technique” is a series of gentle muscle manipulations carried out in specific sequences with timed pauses. The chief aim is complete restoration and harmonious structural integration in the body. With this, it follows that you will achieve the improvement of posture, the encouragement of good lymphatic and venous drainage and the improvement of the arterial blood flow.
Each “Bowen Move” sends a neuro-muscular message to the brain based body-mind computer centre. (Each cell of the human body is directly connected to the brain via the nervous system, also the blood and lymph).
As the Bowen Move (or Release) transmits its neurological message or impulse to the brain, the brain and endocrine system changes its frequency and a relaxation release process occurs, causing micro-changes in the blood, lymph, hormone levels etc.
Thus each Bowen focal point is released, an energy tension dynamic is discharged from the “Bowen Point”. The only body parts worked on during Bowen Treatment are the precise locations on the body, which Mr Bowen discovered. They are storage depots of the body’s own powers of self-healing, metabolism and maintenance.
Mr Bowen discovered where the body stores its own powers of healing and metabolism when it is out of balance and how to reset and activate the body’s inherent powers of self-healing and maintenance.
“The technique works by re-balancing the muscular and fascia tension levels and relasing tensions and distortions in the fascia, which affect the whole body. When the fascia and muscles are permanently contracted or distorted, the tissue dehydrates, thus Bowen assists re-hydration and softening of the connective tissues, and, through the piezoelectric quality of the fascia, facilitates the body’s capacity to detect, amplify and process bio-electromagnetic signals that inform the cells where maintenance adjustments need to be made for maximum health. Bowen also re-balances the autonomic nervous system, and through the light/electromagnetic energy emitted by the practitioner’s hands – (of an almost identical frequency range as the Schumann Resonance known as the heartbeat of the earth, which controls our life rhythm) – healing and regeneration are stimulated.” (Kayode Olafimihan, Director of the Bowen International Foundation and Susannah Hall, Principal of the Bowen School)
