About me

Savita has been a practitioner of Yoga since 1993. Since that time she has completed Yogic Studies in 2004 culminating in the Diploma of Satyananda Yoga Teaching in 2008. She began her teaching in Yoga Ashram in 2006 and in the community from 2007. Other qualifications include a Bachelor of Psychology completed in 2003 and a life-long interest in and learning of Martial Arts.

Savita continues to teach the Satyananda Yoga style now from her main base in Jerrabomberra and in Lyneham (see details of class times and locations above). She also offers private sessions from her home. She has been spending time in Ashram in India from 2013, developing her knowledge of Yoga and offering Service to the community.

Savita has a particular love of Mantra and music. She has been teaching ‘Kirtan’ in the Canberra Community since 2007 and holds a Kirtan in O’Connor every First Friday of the month. In her yoga classes she teaches Asana (physical postures), Pranayama (breathing techniques), Meditation and Relaxation (Yoga Nidra) and some Mantra. She places particular emphasis on the breathing techniques giving basic breathing instruction with Asana followed by more formal breathing practices (Pranayama). She follows the premise that the breath is the link between the body and the mind and is the key to both relaxation and strength. This is the art of Awareness and the aim of Yoga is to hold our awareness in the moment. She encourages people to attend class regularly so as to develop a greater awareness of themself, to gain full benefit of the practices and to utilise those practices in their daily lives.

In the present and the future, Savita hopes to cultivate a balance between time spent in Ashram in India and Yoga teaching back in Australia.
