Years of walking in narrow-fitting shoes and high-heels mean that women are more vulnerable to particular foot issues than men and are at risk of arch and ankle problems.

Your feet become wider and longer as time passes and your heel and forefoot’s natural padding thins. Years of standing and walking leads to a flattening of your arches and stiffening of your feet and ankles. Wearing shoes with heels 2 inches or higher cause your foot to slide forward in your shoe, redistributing your weight and causing unnatural pressure points, throwing your body’s natural alignment out of whack.

Sole Therapy is able to bridge the gap between fashion and function. The Podiatrists at Sole Therapy want you to look and feel great. We make slim, comfort-driven orthoses to fit into your slim or high-heeled shoes.

When you have access to our expert advice, you’re able to re-align your body without having to jeopardise fashion. Sole Therapy wants you to look and feel great from the sole up!

Foot Conditions commonly experienced by Women:

CORNS AND CALLUSES

Thick, hardened layers of skin that develop in areas of friction between your shoe and foot.

TOENAIL PROBLEMS

The pressure on your toes and nail beds from wearing heels that force your foot against the front of your shoe can lead to nail fungus and ingrown toenails.

HAMMERTOE

Wearing shoes that force your toes against the front of your shoe can lead to an unnatural bending of your toes.

BUNIONS

Tight fitting shoes can worsen bunions. Bunions begin with a leaning of the big toe, then gradually change the angle of the bones as time passes and slowly create the characteristic bump.

HEEL PAIN

The combination of faulty foot structure, and, poor and ill-fitting footwear is a common cause of plantar fasciitis which is often misdiagnosed as a heel spur.

TIGHT HEEL CORDS AND CALF MUSCLES

Do you find wearing flat shoes uncomfortable? If you wear heels all the time, you put your Achilles tendon at risk of tightening and shortening.

PUMP BUMP (Haglund’s Deformity)

This bony enlargement on the rear of your heel can become aggravated by the rigid backs or straps of shoes.

MORTON’S NEUROMAS

This is a thickening of nerve tissue in the ball of the foot caused by compression and irritation of the nerve between the 3rd and 4th toes. This condition is caused by wearing tight fitting shoes.

ANKLE SPRAIN

Women are particularly vulnerable to ankle sprain as a result of poor footwear choices.  This may lead to eversion and injury of the lateral ligaments.

BALL OF THE FOOT PAIN (Metatarsalgia)

High heels cause you to shift more weight to the ball of your foot, rather than distributing it over the entire foot. Flat shoes may cause pain due to a lack of cushioning.

STRESS FRACTURES

These are tiny cracks in the bones of your foot. Stress fractures can be caused by the pressure placed on your forefoot by high heels.

If you experience these or any other foot pain, call the Podiatrists at Sole Therapy and book an appointment now! Your feet will thank you for it!
