"The practise of Yoga induces a primary sense of measure and proportion. Reduced to our own body, our first instrument, we learn to play it, drawing from it maximum resonance and harmony".
- Yehudi Mennhin (Violinist and Yogi)
Yoga is a journey of the self, and one that you can only undertake by actively pursuing it. When you step onto the mat, the stresses and complaints of the outside world are not important. What matters is that you are present on your mat.
Through Asana (postures), we challenge the body, stretching, strengthening, twisting and inverting it. The word asana translates as 'seat'; we practise the postures so that we can sit comfortably. We are therefore more focused and able to move onto some of the more intricate aspects of Yoga, such as Pranayama (breathing exercises), and Meditation. And finally Relaxation, allowing the body to be completely free of tension.
Four Basic Principles To Unify The Body & Mind
1. Use the mind in a positive way.
2. Use the mind with full concentration.
3. Use the body naturally.
4. Train the body gradually, systematically and continuously.
