Compassionate Communication

At times we all have road bumps in our relationships at times. And it’s not for lack of interest or love or desire to connect, but at certain points it is about voicing what really matters and sometimes this can be portrayed in such a way that doesn’t best serve us to achieve what we want… usually, love, understanding, intimacy, connection….

Compassionate communication training is a method of building empathy – that is, the ability to connect and hear what another individual is saying regardless of how it is being delivered; as well as developing honesty – the ability to know what matters most to us and how to get it, in a way that serves life and connection and does not end up in disharmony.

What is Nonviolent Communication?

NVC is based on the foundational principles of nonviolence – the natural state of compassion when no violence is present in the heart. It is a philosophy that starts by assuming that we are all compassionate in our very nature and that violent methods – whether they be physical or verbal are learned behaviours supported and taught by the prevailing culture. NVC also assumes that we all share the same, basic human requirements, and that each of our actions and strategies to meet one or more these requirements. Those individuals who practice NVC have discovered greater authenticity in their communication, enhanced understanding, more profound connections and improved conflict resolution.

People who have used NVC have noticed transformations in:

  • Conflict resolution

  • Self-care and self-love/esteem

  • Deepening connection to humanity

  • Building on a spirituality of peace and connectedness

  • Strengthening resilience in relationships and workplaces

  • Learning and developing empathy skills

  • Deepening relationships

  • Compassion for others

  • Gaining understanding and insight

  • Practical tools for communication

  • Confidence building (the ability to know you are ok and you can handle what comes)
