WELCOME TO STUDIO YELLOW

Studio Yellow was born to address the need we all have to be creative. Founder, Natalie lynch, believes the only way to find happiness is through self-care. After 30 years of teaching art in schools and experiencing the life changing event of becoming a widow at the age 44, Natalie is now dedicated to spreading joy to adults of all ages by offering art lessons on weekdays. Studio Yellow is a mobile business that is continually growing and evolving to meet the needs of our community. Offering a wide variety of classes in most art media, Studio Yellow helps people to connect with their creative side. Complete beginners and those with some art experience enjoy learning new skills, meeting people, and expressing their ideas. Learning to make Art helps you notice all the beauty there is in the world. It also helps you to appreciate the art made by others when you're out and about
visiting galleries.

We know enrolling in an art class can cause some feelings of apprehension or anxiety so we help you every step of the way. You will be guided a little or a lot depending on your wishes. MY STORY

DIRECTOR, NATALIE LYNCH (Dip T, B Ed)

I can’t count how many times people have said to me:
“I’ve always wanted to do art but I can’t even draw!” or “I wish I had been able to do art lessons when I was a child then maybe…”

After 30 years of teaching art in both State and Independent Schools, I am still excited and passionate about everything that I do. I have learnt so much from the children and teenagers in my classes. I love watching them discover “I can do it” and I am always amazed by the endless possibilities and hours of enjoyment that can come from some basic materials and equipment, when mixed with a little know how.

In 2009 I became a widow after 22 years of marriage. After such a tragic event, I learned to look at life in a different way. I know that as the world gets busier many of us put off doing the things we love and that can have a significant impact on our health. Art has always been an important part of my life and wellbeing yet I am very aware of how many adults have never had the opportunity to learn the art basics. I would like to help as many people as possible to engage in some form of art making. I believe we all should be sketching and painting, printing or sculpting our way toward fulfilment. Through art making we can connect with our thoughts or take a break from our ‘work’ and find joy. Why should children have all the fun.

While I still love working in schools (with children) now is the right time for me to share my passion for art with the wider community.
I was once told ‘Everyone needs someone to love, something to do and something to look forward to…It is my hope that Studio Yellow helps you, in some way, to achieve all three.

SERVICES

ART THERAPY

“Every child is an artist. The problem is how to remain an artist once he grows up.” - Picasso

Let Studio Yellow be part of your journey to seek balance and contentment in your life.

Engaging with any of the Arts is therapeutic. I have learnt through personal experience how getting my hands dirty and doing art can sooth the soul. No matter what the results look like, having a go at making art helps you to take the focus off the complicated parts of your life and gives you time to focus on the power and purity of lines, shapes, colour and pattern. Making art helps us learn how to grow from the difficulties we have experienced.

Many of us find that, as our lives get busier, some things go by the wayside. Gradually we stop doing the things we truly enjoy, to make room for all the things we think we ‘have to’ do. Enrolling in an Art class forces you to commit to assigning time to something that feeds your soul. It gives you permission to indulge your creative side and helps you to develop ‘Mindfulness’.

Studio Yellow offers a non-threatening environment to make connections between what you’re thinking and feeling using art materials. Studio yellow will help you smile. Just one Studio Yellow class will give you skills that could translate into countless hours of pleasure. You will meet people, engage in conversation and escape from pressures of your daily life. Developing your ability to think creatively could lead to a new direction in your career or personal life. Making Art, even as a hobby can become a source of income as well.

Making art reminds you that the world really is a beautiful place so let us bring hope and joy back into your life.
I welcome all inquiries about how we can open the door so you can unlock your inner artist and to let some light back into your world.

CLASSES

Studio Yellow classes are scheduled during QUEENSLAND Schools Term Time, with the flexibility to book sessions outside these dates upon application. In-house classes are currently held in two locations on Wednesdays and Thursdays, in the beautiful in Manly Harbour village on Brisbane’s bayside. To find a class go to the list of descriptions in the Timetable section, then select 'Book Here' . Choose the name of the class, then 'Join Here', click on the time (under the date) then 'Next'.

No previous experience is expected. Absolute beginners will feel very ‘normal’ here. The open-ended nature of all art tasks means that those with more confidence are also welcome. Repeating a class is a great way to reinforce your newly acquired skills and ask more questions. Subject matter can be easily adapted to keep the experience fresh for you.

We also will travel to you!

With our mobile service we offer, but are not limited to the following. Please contact us to discuss your needs.

Professional learning for classroom teachers including childcare educators

Let us help you with practical ideas, that have been tried and tested, including managing materials and equipment, setting up your art space and implementing the new Australian Curriculum. We also have a wealth of experience with planning an art program that links in with other curriculum areas and we can advise you on everything you need to know about planning a fabulous Student Art Exhibition.

Artist-in-Residence style workshops

We will take up residence for the day or the week to create an artwork for your organisation or we will work with adults or children so that they can have a quality art experience. Contact us to discuss how we can meet your needs.
