Welcome to Sydney Osteopathic Health - Sylvania

Vicki is a qualified, registered osteopath who graduated from a Masters in Osteopathy in 2004 and has since expanded her skills to incorporate cranial osteopathy, balance ligamentous tension and dry needling. She has extensive training and experience in working with patients suffering from a variety of complaints such as headaches, sciatica, neck and back pain, and has a special interest in the treatment of women, pregnancy related issues, babies and children.

Vicki has a hands on, whole body approach to treatment, adapting her style to best suit the individual client. She aims to reduce the severity of the patient’s complaint and discomfort in the short term, whilst helping to improve their overall structure and function in the long term.

What can you expect at Sydney Osteoapthic Health?

  • One to one consultations during which Vicki will explain to you what is causing your pain, why it has happened, what treatment you require and how many sessions it will take to relieve the pain and resolve the problem. She will also give you advice on what you can do to speed your recovery, how to avoid prolonging or aggravating your injury and what can be done, through treatment and management, to reduce reoccurrence of your problem.
  • Hands-on diagnosis and treatment. You will never be left to sit on a machine to do the work of a practitioner.
  • Long treatment times (45-60 mins), which give the osteopath a better understanding of your body, and you a more complete treatment experience. This also means that you will require less frequent visits, thus allowing you to return to your pain free life more immediately.
  • Treatment approaches that cater to a wide range of conditions and suitable for the whole family – from newborns to the elderly
  • Referral to other practitioners if required such as with GP’s, radiologists etc.
  • Hicaps facility, rebates from private health funds and Medicare Enhanced Primary Care Plans when approved by your GP
  • A genuine interest in understanding your problem and guiding you toward solutions, which promote balance and harmony within your body and your lifestyle.

Introducing Dry Needling

Dry needling is a treatment technique which uses small filament type needles (acupuncture needle) to release tight muscles and trigger points with the goal of reducing muscle pain and dysfunction. This technique can be used to treat acute and chronic orthopedic and musculoskeletal conditions. It is especially useful for tight tissues which do not respond to traditional massage techniques. This technique is not used as acupuncture, or is it in any way designed to work with Chinese philosophy.

Osteopathy and Pregnancy

During pregnancy, a woman’s body must adapt to the gradual increase in her weight and shift of her centre of gravity, as well as make room for the baby as it grows. To do this, her body needs to be strong and flexible. Any old injuries, underlying muscle tightness, joint restriction or pelvic instability will impair her ability to adapt and may result in pain. Although back, neck, pelvic and leg pain is very common during pregnancy, it is a sign that the body is struggling and needs help.

Many pregnant women find osteopathic treatment very helpful throughout their pregnancy. The treatment techniques used are carefully selected for each individual.

Treatment is aimed at easing sore and tired muscles and rebalancing the pelvis. Post-nataly, it may also help relieve back pain from breast feeding and lifting the baby.

When necessary and upon your request, liaising with your midwife, obstetrician and GP at all stages is common practice by Vicki, in order to provide the best overall care for you and to address any concerns you may have. Being pregnant is a unique and powerful life experience. It is a time that can, and should be enjoyed. So if you’re in pain and to improve your overall wellbeing during this exciting time in your life, call Vicki and make an appointment today.

Paediatric Osteopathy - Babies and Children

During the birth process, the baby is subjected to enormous forces as the uterus pushes to expel the baby against the natural resistance of the birth canal. The baby has to twist and turn as it squeezes through the bony pelvis, absorbing these stresses within its head and body. This tension may be retained in the body long after birth and if left unresolved, birth strains may lead to your baby being unsettled and fractious, as well as leaving them more vulnerable to musculo-skeletal problems such as headaches and back pain, as they grow.

Osteopathic treatment focuses on releasing the stresses held from the birth process.
