Reflexology

Background

Reflexology is a science which deals with the principle that there are reflexes in the feet and hands which are directly connected to each organ and every part of the body.

This natural healing therapy was first employed by the ancient Egyptians and has been traced back to 2330 BC. It was the American physiotherapist Miss Eunice Ingham who researched, documented and developed the techniques which have made reflexology a powerful modem healing therapy.

What is it

Reflexology endeavors to get to the root cause of disease and treat this, not the symptoms. The techniques are designed to keep the body’s systems of glands, organs, nerves, chemicals etc. balanced or in tune, to enable the body to operate at peak efficiency.

Using the thumb and fingers on the reflexes in the feet, reflexology relieves stress and tension, said to cause 70% of disorders, by relaxing muscles and blood vessels to improve the blood supply and promotes unblocking of nerve impulses and helps the body to achieve homeostasis. A tender reflex will enable the practitioner to identify the source of various ailments and congestion.

Reflexology is a holistic healing method working on the whole body, not isolating a specific disease and treating it alone.

How it works

Reflexology allows the bloodstream to remove tiny, crystalline grains in the feet, thought to be calcium deposits, caused by excessive acidity in the bloodstream. These deposits impede nerve and blood supply causing toxins and stagnation to build up in the feet.

Reflexology cleanses toxins or poisons from the body via the kidneys, bowels or skin, allowing the body to use energy on healing itself not detoxing. Drinking water after treatment helps to flush the toxins out.

Vacuflex

What is it

Vacuflex is a combination of reflexology and acupressure. The idea for Vacuflex originated in Denmark in the early 60’s and has been developed to its present level by Inge Dougans in South Africa.

Reflexology and acupressure are concerned with balancing the energy flow to stimulate the body healing abilities, restore a state of health and treat illness in a holistic manner. So combining them in the two-phase Vacuflex therapy gives a more comprehensive and effective treatment.

The first phase of Vacuflex is where large felt boots are placed over both feet and the air is sucked out creating a vacuum to mould the boots to the feet with even pressure. Vacuflex works on the same principles as reflexology but more intensively, i.e. 5 minutes of Vacuflex is equal to 2-3 hours of reflexology. The boots are painless and stimulate all points on the foot simultaneously.

The second phase of the treatment concerns “cupping and Acupressure. Vacuum therapy has been used for thousands of years when cups of animal horn, clay or metal were used. This phase balances the meridians using vacuum pressure through silicone pads applied to specific meridian points on the arms and legs.

Vacuflex

The Vacuflex pressure improves circulation so the whole body receives oxygen and nutrients more effectively. The pressure helps to unblock energy and relieve toxic congestion by elimination through bowels, kidneys, skin, etc.. Vacuflex facilitates the release of toxins from the body.

Most importantly the pressure from the boots leaves a map of colours on the feet for 10-15 seconds. The colours range from blue, red, yellow and white depending on the severity of the problem. The colours change from treatment to treatment in accordance with the healing process. These colours help the practitioner pinpoint areas of congestion.

How effective is Vacuflex

Results from treatment depend on a number of factors; the duration and severity of the condition, one’s general age and health. Generally, the earlier treatment is sought, the more likely a rapid improvement will be experienced. Long term chronic conditions may need six to ten treatments but improvements are shown earlier and clearly by the changing colours on the feet.

Vacuflex is excellent for treating all kinds of ailments as is reflexology and acupressure. Today Vacuflex is in 16 countries with 60 practitioners in the UK.
