About Us

Tolycab is a composite name assembled from the first two letters of Shannon and Jo’s Children’s names (TObias, LYdia, CAleb and ABigail). It is not only unique, but helps them stay focussed on four of the most important things in their lives. Their logo is the brainchild of Felicity their Graphic Designer and Creative Genius (don’t believe them, its right there on her business card). The London cab captures the idea that Tolycab exists to serve and more significantly to help you on your journey.

Whether the journey be a pregnancy and subsequent birth of a child, a particular season of parenting or dealing with PTSD, the journey belongs to you.

Tolycab brings this idea to all that it does. The process of therapy should be based on great rapport, the parent education experience should strengthen the relationship between Mum and Dad, the pregnancy and birthing journey itself should be empowering for a woman.

If you are expecting a child, are new parents or just having a tough time of life, we look forward to the opportunity – and privilege – of serving you.

Parenting Courses

Shannon and Jo are passionate, intentional parents. They don’t always get it right but they do always try and improve. They believe a healthy community is built on strong families and these are built on loving, stable marriages.

Their wide topic knowledge is challenged, refined and made practical on a daily basis in the home they share with their two daughters, two sons (and Labrador Retriever).

Whilst Shannon and Jo draw on a wide variety of information and experience in their own parenting and their parenting training, they find common ground from the common sense approach advocated by Growing Families Australia.

The training style is highly interactive, giving opportunities to ask specific questions and share creative solutions within the group. They approach parenting from the view of having made lots of mistakes rather than having lots of answers. It is always a privilege to share and learn together pursuing the common goal of raising responsible adults.

In addition to structured Growing Families courses, Shannon and Jo have been able meet unique requests such as 1 day workshops focused on a particular age group or parenting challenges as well as help individual parents with specific needs relating to their children.

Counselling

Shannon offers counselling to private clients specialising in men’s issues, critical incident response and trauma. This private work compliments his full time employment as the Academic Manager for the Australian Institute of Family Counselling (www.aifc.com.au) where he oversees 80 professional counsellors training over 600 students in Counselling and Psychotherapy.

Shannon specialises in Critical Incident Response and has been a member of Crisis Intervention and Management Australasia (www.cima.org.au) since 2010. Between 2006 and 2016 he worked with the Stress Prevention and Management Team with the South Australian Fire and Emergency Services Commission. In this capacity he has delivered hundreds of hours of pre-incident training, has been in involved in the leading of dozens of post incident Immediate Small Group Interventions and Powerful Event Group Support debriefings following emergency services critical incidents such as industrial accidents, Road Crash Rescue, incidents involving children and line of duty deaths. In 2016 he was awarded a Service medal from the South Australian State Emergency Service.

Childbirth Education

The simple aim of childbirth education is to equip expecting parents with an understanding of their birthing options, to empower informed decision making. Jo is passionate about working with women to help them determine the birth they are hoping for and then support them in making decisions that are going to give the best chance of those hopes being realised.

Jo is a Certified Educator with CAPEA (Childbirth And Parenting Educators of Australia). She has worked professionally, globally in human resource management and holds a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and a Graduate Diploma in Human Resources. She has served as the Vice-Chair of Birth Matters South Australia and provided advisory services to the Women’s and Children’s Hospital for the SA Department of Health.

Jo is the South Australian accredited trainer for Choices for Childbirth and is presently completing an international Diploma in Childbirth Education.
