All instructors have extensive training in their field of expertise and work to provide a comprehensive, safe and thoroughly effective range for injury treatment and management.

Unanderra Physiotherapy and Pilates has been successfully treating patients in the Illawarra for the past 25 years. To be around this long we must be doing something right! We love the fact that we really get to build a relationship with our patients. The kids we used to look after with their sports and growing injuries are now back bringing their own families in for treatment.

Our philosophy is to not only achieve a great outcome but to have a great experience along the way. Our staff are very friendly and caring and strive to make your time at our practice as enjoyable as possible. Our physiotherapists continually undertake ongoing education to provide you with the best treatment approach.

Every patient is equally important. Whilst we do treat elite athletes they are no more important than the "weekend warrior" or the patient with their post op knee replacement. You won't be taking second place to sporting teams. We have the expertise to treat kids with growing pains right through to our stiffening older population and enjoy the diversity and variety of problems that we see.

Physiotherapy

At your first appointment we will take a detailed history regarding your current injury and any past injuries. We listen to you and together we set the goals that you want to achieve. These can be anywhere from returning to elite sport to being able to get out of a chair without assistance.
We focus on a "hands on" approach to your treatment and not gimmicky machines. Treatment techniques involve joint mobilisation, deep soft tissue releases, stretching and massage. All our Physiotherapists have undergone extensive training and have a huge repertoire of techniques available to get you back on track quickly.

Clinical Pilates

You may have tried traditional Pilates, but you really haven't had the best experience until you've tried Clinical Pilates. Clinical Pilates is a highly individualised form of traditional Pilates practiced by physiotherapists. There is a growing body of evidence which supports this active approach to rehabilitation. Finally the research is catching up with what our patients have been telling us for years.

Sports

Our physiotherapists are highly qualified professionals with expert knowledge and skills in the areas of sports injury diagnosis, treatment, rehabilitation, and prevention. We treat sports people of all ages and abilities, recreational to professional athletes, teams and individuals.
At Unanderra Physiotherapy and Pilates we work with professional athletes in the clinic on a daily basis, as well as regularly touring with international level sporting teams. Our promise is to give everyone the same level of care and service, whether you are one of our international level athletes, or trying to get fit for tomorrow’s game of social golf.

Sport screening

Our physiotherapists are highly qualified and experienced in providing screening in relation to specific sports. Our current screening process includes sports such as: Golf, Netball, Rugby League, Rugby Union, Swimming, Soccer, Basketball, Touch Football, AFL, Cricket and Dancing of all disciplines.

Our practice has performed screening for athletes of all ages and sporting levels, including those at professional and international level.

Dry needling

Our practice has qualified and highly experienced physiotherapists utilising Dry Needling (Trigger point dry needling) in the management of pain and injury. Dry Needling involves the use of small filament type needles (similar to those used in acupuncture) that are inserted into trigger points (knots) within a muscle. Often the muscle will twitch once the trigger point is stimulated, and cause a reflex release of the tight muscles.

Hydrotherapy

Hydrotherapy is a common treatment option for those recovering from musculoskeletal injuries or those who suffer arthritic type pains. Hydrotherapy is a form of low impact, aquatic based exercise which is performed in a heated pool.

Exercise physiology

Exercise Physiologists are experts in the field of safe and effective exercise prescription for any type of health issue, to enhance athletic performance or overall health and fitness.

Massage Therapy

No other health service draws out a more emotional response than massage. Possibly you’ve had one of those ‘killer’ deep tissue massages that leaves you teary, but feeling a million dollars the next day. Alternatively, you’ve had a soothing relaxation massage that helps you shake off the stresses of your day and transports you to cloud nine.

The simple fact is both the physical (tissue manipulation) and emotional (relaxation) aspects of massage work to reduce aches and pains, whether caused by sport, injury or simply the stresses and strains of modern life.
