Offering small, tailored classes to all levels of experience we invite you to come and try a yoga class for yourself.
Your teacher, Clare Pritchard, is a Certified Iyengar Yoga teacher and also holds both Certificate 1 & 2 in the Radiant Child Yoga Program. She also recently completed a course in Yoga Therapy for Children. Clare has been teaching for over 10 years and has travelled to India a number of times to deepen her understanding of the practice.
Clare worked for many years in the Community Sector so approaches her yoga teaching and practice with a far greater depth than merely 'running a business'. She is passionate about bringing yoga to survivors of trauma, a practice which is increasingly recognised as being immensely valuable in recovery and healing. This interest has led Clare to work with clients of the Western Centre Against Sexual Assault, the Northern Centre Against Sexual Assault, The Asylum Seeker Resource Centre, and the GirlStorey program run by the YWCA.
Clare's other area of interest is yoga for kids. From preschoolers right up to teens, yoga is an ideal practice for young bodies and minds. It's benefits include an increased body awareness and greater physical control, improved mental concentration, an enhanced sense of competence and confidence, and a deep sense of inner harmony and peace. In a non-competitive environment, each child is free to explore what a yoga practice means to them as an individual. Clare has worked within schools, in out-of-school care programs, and runs Yarra Ranges Yoga school holiday yoga sessions during the year.
Regular weekly classes run during the school term. The cost is $16 per casual class, but students are encouraged to book in for a full term to encourage commitment and to guarantee their place in the class.
Term 4 commences on Monday 8th October. The cost for the 10 week term is $135 (no classes on Melbourne Cup Eve or Day).
Kids School Holiday Yoga
sessions also take place during each of the school holidays - the next date will be in January 2013. These morning sessions run for both preschoolers and for primary school aged kids. Preschool sessions run for 1/2 an hour and are a short and fun introduction to yoga stretches, breathing and relaxation. The primary school sessions (for 5-12 year olds) run for 1.5 hours. The children are introduced to a variety of yoga poses, incorporate these poses into fun games, and take time to focus on their breath and relaxation. These activities are followed by a healthy snack and some discussion about the benefits or effects of yoga.
for individuals or small groups, are available on request. The session runs for approximately an hour and the cost for a session is $70 individual, $80 for 2 - 4 students. This is a great way to deepen your practice, or focus on elements of the practice which are of particular interest or challenge to you.
