Yvette Allen - Resource Therapy
Focus areas
Resource Therapy is a therapeutic approach which identifies that your personality is made up of different parts. At times a part of you might want one thing, yet another part of you wants something entirely different. Such as, you may want to lose weight while another part of you may wish to indulge in your favourite chocolate cake every day.
Such a large number of individuals suffer as a result of the fact that they continue rehashing practices that they would prefer not to do. How frequently have you said to yourself "I know I shouldn't ______ however I can't stop myself!" There are a boundless number of issues that can fit in that blank! A couple of cases I've found in my practice include: drinking, smoking, gambling, OCD practices, drug addictions, working excessively, nail biting and over eating!
Resource Therapy is an awesome tool to utilise in these situations. Resource therapy deals with the comprehension of the parts of you that are producing the unwanted behaviours but these may not necessarily the cause of the behaviours. Instead we recognise that this behaviour is attempting to protect you from encountering the negative feelings that are held by another part of you. These negative feelings are seen as being terrible to the point that a protective part of you will do just about anything to shield you from feeling them. Imagine knowing that there is underlying cause for these unwanted and undesirable behaviours and practices.
