Social Anxiety Disorder

Social anxiety disorder is a disorder that is characterized by an extreme anxiety about being judged by others or behaving in a way that might be embarrassing or cause ridicule. Symptoms of this disorder include anxiety around other people, avoiding social situations, and an extreme fear of meeting new people. Physical symptoms include blushing, sweating, shaking, trembling, tense muscles, shaky voice, dry mouth, and pounding heart. Treatment includes medication, social skills training and cognitive behavioural therapy.
