Pranayam: (Breathing exercise) Pranayam or breathing exercise is very important in yoga. It is equally important for physical improvement and mental health. The ordinary form of breathing is to inhale and exhale in a regular manner that is, inhaling, retaining and exhaling in a regulated and natural continuity. Such natural breathing, when controlled and prolonged successfully, is the science of breathing and it is the best method of prolonging the span of life. Proper practice of breathing exercises maintains the balance of the humours, keeps the body healthy, prolongs life and promotes lustre and brilliance. It gives agility, flexibility and strength.
