Dry needling is a technique that uses fine filament (acupuncture) needles to deactivate trigger points and release tight muscles with the long term goal of reducing muscle pain and dysfunction.

Blue Mountains Osteopathy - Dry Needling

Servicing area

Blaxland East, New South Wales

Focus areas

Circulation Headaches Biomechanics Shoulder pain Pain relief Lifestyle

The application of the dry needle creates a local involuntary twitch response in the muscle fibre similar to a sudden cramping sensation. This is immediately followed by improved movement and a reduction in pain. Post treatment soreness may be experienced similar to that following a deep massage or after an intense workout.

Usually painful conditions require the underlying mechanics to be addressed so dry needling is always used in conjunction with other ‘hands on’ techniques.

Dry needling can be used as an additional tool in the treatment of neck or back pain, upper and lower limb , sciatica, muscle strains, and tension headaches to name a few.
