Focus areas
Pilates is an exercise technique that is specifically designed to strengthen muscles that stabilise and support the spine in day to day movements. Research has discovered that a weakness in a specific muscle group for example, the multifidus, transverse abdominus and pelvic floor are significant contributing factors to ongoing back pain.
We run two sorts of Pilate’s classes, however both are fairly similar in their methodology. They are:
- Physio Pilates: run during the day (currently Tuesdays & Fridays) by physiotherapist Naomi Lawson. Starter’s level, intermediate level, mums & bubs classes and one-on-one sessions all available. Minimal equipment used.
- Matwork Pilates: run in the evening (currently Mondays & Thursdays) by Pilates trained fitness therapist Gayle Wakeling-Taylor. Suitable for beginners through to advanced, all exercises are floor exercises performed on mats.
Pilates is renowned as one of the fastest advancing exercise techniques in the world. It was previously a well-kept mystery by Hollywood big names, yet now wellbeing experts and the overall population worldwide are focusing on what is being termed a more "intelligent" and "mindful" exercise approach. It is a body and mind exercise program that works on the deep postural muscles of the spine and abdomen to help posture and overall core stability.
