Ross is a holistic bird vet in Sydney. An established Sydney bird vet with years of experience. Ross graduated in 1972 and runs a small animal practice caring for pet birds, cats, dogs, cavies, rabbits, ferrets, rats, mice, reptiles, and fish. Ross served as Dial-A-Vet on radio 2GB for three years and appeared on many animal hospital TV programmes. Dr Ross Perry graduated as a vet BVSc(Hons) from University of Sydney in 1972 and was registered as Australia’s first Bird Specialist by examination in Caged and Aviary Bird Health in 1993 when he was awarded FACVSc(Avian Health). Dr Ross Perry subsequently served as an examiner for the Australian College of Veterinary Scientists in Caged and Aviary Bird Health.

Dr Ross Perry is the author of many articles and book chapters, as well as “Vade Mecum 2 Diseases of Birds” published by Post-Graduate Foundation in Veterinary Science, University of Sydney and “Caring for Birds with Love and Gratitude”. He served as Dial-A-Vet with Brian Wilshire for 3.5 years on Sydney radio 2GB, and was featured many times on Animal Hospital, a television production by Channel 10.
Dr Ross Perry has served as a vet from various locations in the Sydney region: Sylvania Heights, Forestville, Duffy’s Forest, Terrey Hills, Thornleigh, Homebush and Cromer. Although Caged and Aviary Bird Health is Dr Perry’s speciality, he has cared for and has lots of experince with the full spectrum of small animals including many exotic pets and Australian native animals. When at Homebush Dr Ross Perry ran Homebush Animal Hospital with hospital cages and boarding facilities for up to 120 animals and he operated “no kill” dog pounds at various times for Strathfield, Burwood and Ashfield Municipal Councils.

The Gold Coast hinterland region of south east Queensland now beckons as a base from which he and his wife Dianne can serve people and their birds internationally via the internet, various other media and international speaking and teaching projects.

Dr Ross Perry is writing and illustrating a series of textbooks starting with one on “Budgie Health” for vets and others around the world wanting to learn about caring for and treating budgerigars.
These books will include lots of important advice about birds, in this instance, choosing and buying pet budgerigars, budgie diets, budgie cages, quarantine, budgie toys, budgie health hazards, poisonous plants and perches, moulting, wing clipping, taming budgies, calming budgies, handling budgies, holding budgies, restraining budgies, teaching budgies to talk, introductions and match making, breeding budgies, hand-raising budgies, sick budgerigars, diarrhoea, respiratory diseases, infectious diseases, PBFD Psittacine Beak Feather Disease, Budgie Polyomavirus, Psittacosis and Avian Chlamydophilosis (Chlamydia), bacterial infections in budgies such as coliform infections, Budgerigar fungal infections including Megabacteria Associated Disease (Avian Gastric Yeast), other yeast infections and thrush, protozoal infections such as Canker and Trichomoniasis, Coccidiosis, Worms, Mites including Scaly Face, and Lice.

“Budgie Health” also details other diseases such as Cancer, Heavy Metal Poisoning, leg paralysis, sore eyes, feather plucking and feather loss as well as injuries such as broken wings and broken legs. It shows you how to treat budgies, and how to crop feed them, how to give medicines by mouth and injection, dose rates for medicines, drugs, and dietary supplements and much more.
