Welcome to

Acupuncture encourages the body to promote natural healing and facilitates improved function.

It achieves this by stimulating a physiological response via the insertion of very fine, sterile needles into prescribed points on the body.

In fact, acupuncture needles are up to 22 times finer than hypodermic needles (injection needles) resulting in a mostly subtle insertion sensation, one of heaviness or no sensation at all.

Throughout its 4000 years of clinical development, generations of Chinese physicians discovered which points stimulate the nervous system specifically required for an individual's particular presentation.

Acupuncture is a natural medicine that:
  • provides drug free treatment.
  • has very few, if any side effects.
  • treats the underlying cause of disease and illnes as well as the symptoms.
  • provides an holistic approach to the treatment of disease, illness and pain patterns.
  • assists in prevention against disease and illness as well as the maintenance of general well being.

Treatable conditions

Health & Wellbeing

Acupuncture and traditional Chinese medicinal strategies are often thought of as “alternative” treatments, or last resorts, when it comes to treating medical ailments. This is especially so if the problem is unusually complex or life-threatening; people just don't want to put their lives in the hands of treatments that they don't trust or aren't familiar with.

But the fact is, acupuncture and Oriental medicine have often been shown to be exceedingly effective in treating a myriad of medical problems. Acupuncture can be used not only for the treatment of illness, but also for the prevention of illness and the promotion of overall health. It is not uncommon for individuals to have several acupuncture appointments a year, just for treatments that are meant to rejuvenate energy.

Back Pain

One common reason for seeking a medical professional is back pain. It is a condition that plagues the lives of millions of people, all over the world. It forces us to put any physical activity, both work and play, on hold.

Acupuncture treatment for back pain is fairly simple. Needles may be places directly at the site of the condition, or at areas where there is no pain at all. These are referred to as “local” and “distal” needles, respectively. Even needles which are placed nowhere near the effected area may provide excellent results. Sometimes an Acupuncturist may simply place needles at the areas of the patient's body which are found to be the most sensitive. Herbs, cupping, and electric stimulation of acupuncture points may be used alongside the acupuncture itself. Most often, it is best to have regular and frequent sessions when the pain is high, and to ease off of acupuncture as the pain recedes.

Muscle Injury

Acupuncture, often along with herbal medicine, specific exercises and massages, and an altered diet, can help individuals who are suffering from pain due to an injury, want to avoid a potential surgery, or want to quickly recover post-operation.

Customized combinations of treatments can be done to optimize one's potential to quickly recover from various conditions including auto accident pain, work related pain or injuries, pain or injuries from sports, or post-operative pain from orthopedic, gynecological, oral, cosmetic, or any number of other kinds of surgeries.

In traditional Chinese medicine, these kinds of injuries are viewed as traumas to the muscles and soft tissues, resulting in disruption of the body's healing processes and natural flow of energy.

Stress & Anxiety

Stress is caused by our bodies reacting to situations which are perceived as threatening or out of our control. Stress, in moderation is a perfectly normal and healthy part of life. Everybody experiences stress at some stage in their life. However, if the stress is particularly traumatic or if it persists for an abnormally long time, it can be highly detrimental to mental, emotional, and even physical health.

However, acupuncture can help to remove any blockages in the energy roads. In Western medicine, they would say that the acupuncture points trigger a response in the brain to release endorphins, which are pain-killing hormones, throughout the body. The heart rate and blood pressure are lowered, and the muscles are relaxed. Acupuncture also helps to increase and improve blood circulation. From the traditional Chinese perspective, each acupuncture point unblocks an intersection in the energy pathway network, allowing for a better flow of energy. The symptoms as well as the cause of stress and other negative emotions can be alleviated.

IVF

Academics have been attempting to scientifically prove how acupuncture works for many decades now. Some of the theories suggest that Acupuncture assists IVF by stimulating the release of hormones responsible for menstrual regularity and increasing blood circulation to the ovaries and uterus. Creating an oxygen and nutrient rich environment, thus increasing the chance of IVF embryo implantation success.

The acupuncture and herbs prior to starting your IVF cycle will focus on regulating your cycle, improve the quality for your eggs, thicken and enrich your uterus lining and regulate your natural hormonal response.

As you start the IVF process you will most likely be instructed to stop taking the herbs and to focus on acupuncture alone. There are several milestones along the way where acupuncture is recommended to increase your likelihood of IVF success.

Quit Smoking

It is estimated that about one third of all adults (people over the age of 18), all over the world, are cigarette smokers. Nicotine addiction is prevalent in all parts of the globe, claiming over 50 million people in the United States alone.

Acupuncture is an exceedingly successful method of assisting smokers in quitting. Treatment aims to promote relaxation of the patient and detoxification of the body, while focusing on reducing withdrawal symptoms such as jitters, cravings, irritability, and restlessness, so the patient will feel less inclined to resort to a cigarette..

Studies have shown that Acupuncture can have significant long-term effects on a patient's desire to smoke. Interestingly, participants in one study conducted at the University of Oslo in Norway even reported a decreased taste for tobacco after the treatments.

Immunity

If you have already come down with a cold or the flu, acupuncture treatments can help relieve symptoms you are currently experiencing including chills, fever, body aches, runny nose, congestion, sore throat and cough. While bringing some immediate relief, treatments will reduce the incidence of an upper respiratory tract infection and shorten the length of the illness.

Acupuncture and Oriental medicine can prevent colds and flu by strengthening the immune system with just a few needles inserted into key points along the body's energy pathways. In Oriental Medicine, disease prevention begins with a protective layer around the exterior of the body called wei qi or defensive energy. There are acupuncture points known for strengthening the circulation of blood and energy and for consolidating the outer defense layers of the skin and muscle (Wei Qi) so that germs and viruses cannot enter through them. If you catch colds easily, have low energy and require a long time recuperating from an illness your wei qi may be deficient.

Weight Loss

A commonly unknown or otherwise unaccepted secret about weight loss is that all diets will be effective in helping one to lose weight, if the number of calories taken in is less than the number of calories burned.

However, in our modern society, exercise is not as necessary as it was in mankind's past, and food is much easier to acquire. These circumstances, the chronic stress associated with the modern lifestyle, and other psychological triggers which may cause one to over-eat, have combined to create an obesity epidemic.

Because of this, Acupuncture is becoming more and more popular as a means of losing weight and treating obesity. A recently published review of 31 studies involving 3,013 individual cases of weight loss Acupuncture treatments, conducted to critically assess the effectiveness of Acupuncture in treating obesity and helping in weight loss, revealed that Acupuncture does have a significant advantage over placebo treatments, more conventional means of weight loss, and more mainstream Western medications.

In traditional Chinese medicine's “Five Element” theory, weight problems are caused by imbalances in the body caused by malfunctioning of the spleen and liver. It is the spleen's job to regulate the digestive system, making sure that food that is taken in is converted into Qi for the body to use. The liver is responsible for making sure that Qi, blood, and emotions flow smoothly through the body.

Malfunctioning of the spleen can cause problems such as fatigue, slowed metabolism, water retention, loose stool, and a feeling of heaviness in the body. Malfunctioning of the liver (which may be caused by the stress associated with modern lifestyles) can cause a slowed metabolism and poor functioning in the digestive system. Taken together, spleen and liver disharmony leads to triggers that cause cravings and compulsive eating, and an overall increased risk of becoming overweight.
