The holistic health services for your Body, Mind and Spirit at Eternal Balance Mind and Body Wellbeing are provided by Catherine Glover. Catherine is a Clinical Hypnotherapist, Psychotherapist and Regression Therapist. Catherine holds a Diploma in Regression Therapy through the Past Life Regression Academy and has completed a Clinical Hypnotherapists certification through the Institute of Clinical Hypnotherapy and Psychotherapy (ICHP Australia) and the Essex Institute.

Catherine continues her studies and self-development so she is able to offer the latest therapies and support to people who are walking their own path of self-discovery. Catherine also has a background in Paediatric and Mental Health nursing and counselling, and she has been assisting people within these fields for the past 15 years.

Fascinated by the power of the mind, its ability to heal and potential to positively change a person’s life, is what lead Catherine to discover the holistic approach to wellbeing in the fields of Hypnotherapy and Psychotherapy counselling. What is anxiety?

Anxiety is something everyone experiences, when faced with stressful situations. It is an unpleasant emotion that many of us feel when something is risky, unknown or frightening. Anxiety is also felt when we face a situation that we have had an unpleasant experience with before. This kind of anxiety is normal and is our body’s way of preparing us to act in difficult situations as part of the fight or flight response.

Anxiety can actually help us perform better by revving us up and helping us feel alert. Yet, anxiety becomes a problem if it is too intense, happens all the time, feels overwhelming, or it interferes with daily living. When this occurs it is important to seek out anxiety treatment.

We experience many different situations every day in our lives. Our reactions to these situations can make us feel like we are on a roller-coaster of emotions. Sometimes it feels like we are only just keeping our head above water and surviving day to day. Other times, we can feel restricted by a fear and phobia or overwhelmed by anger and frustration. Counselling services can help us talk through and better understand our emotions. In turn this help us to release the unwanted emotions and feel better.

Bottling up emotions like sadness, anger and frustration can have a negative affect on both our bodies and behaviours. Unfortunately, often our undesirable behaviours can be towards the ones we love most.

Allowing these unwanted reactions to occur can serve to reinforce undesired behaviours. Ultimately, this creates a conditioned response and negative belief system within ourselves. What is the difference between fears and phobias?

Trying to overcome fears that exist in our mind is not easy. However, it is important to understand that fear is a normal human emotion triggered by threatening conditions.

What is fear

Fear is a rationalised and justified emotion that comes in response to a threatening situation. Almost all of us experience fear at some point in our lives. It is very common to feel a little anxious the evening before a long flight, or feel a little dizzy when looking down from a great height. For most of us these feelings are temporary and manageable. It’s when the fear interferes with daily life that it can become a problem.

What is a phobia

A phobia is a type of anxiety disorder that describes an excessive and irrational fear of a specific object, activity, or situation. Phobias involve intense fear surrounding an object or situation that realistically poses little or no real danger. They are different from common fears in that the associated anxiety is so strong it interferes with daily life and the ability to function normally. People suffering from phobias may go to extreme lengths to avoid encountering or experiencing the feared object or situation. For those living with phobias however, this unease becomes a persistent and all-consuming anxiety with the power to turn into overwhelming panic.
Phobia symptoms

Symptoms of phobias are similar to those of a panic attack. When faced with the specific object, activity, or situation that is the subject of intense fear, an individual with a phobia may exhibit the following symptoms:

  • Uncontrollable feelings of anxiety,

  • dread, and panic

  • Rapid heart rate

  • Difficulty breathing

  • Sweating

  • Trembling, shaking

  • Abdominal discomfort
