NATUROPATHY

What is Naturopathy?

Naturopathy is a form of complementary medicine which prevents, assesses and treats conditions of the human body and mind. Naturopathy's foundation lies in the philosophy of the "healing power of nature" and the idea that the body has an innate healing energy which can help you to repair and recover from illness with a helping hand from Naturopathy and a healthy, supportive environment.

The Naturopath's Role

The Naturopath's goal is to teach, empower and inspire the patient to take responsibility for their health and wellbeing by embracing a healthy attitude, lifestyle and diet. Naturopaths don't believe in simply treating the symptoms of health conditions, choosing instead to seek the cause and treat it, rather than the effect. The believe disease prevention is achieved with naturopathic education and its goal of putting in place a lifestyle that supports overall health and wellbeing.

What Benefits Does Naturopathy offer?

Naturopaths choose the gentlest, most efficient and safest possible therapies to support and stimulate your body's innate healing power. They choose from a variety of therapies including herbal medicine, diet and lifestyle advice, vitamins and minerals, flower essences, Homeopathy, hair, tongue, and nail analysis, Iridology and Massage.

You will be treated holistically, with your physical, mental, emotional, spiritual, social and other factors all being seen as integral to the diagnosis and subsequent remedies prescribed. Patients who can benefit from Naturopathic treatment range from those suffering from everyday colds, to more serious, chronic conditions such as allergies. Naturopathy is safe and effective for people of all ages and from all walks of life.

NUTRITIONAL & ENVIRONMENTAL MEDICINE

Nutritional Medicine

Nutrients are the building blocks of human physiology and play an integral part in health and wellbeing. The latest medical research indicates that nutrition plays a fundamental part in good health and the prevention and treatment of a variety of common health conditions.

Environmental Medicine

Environmental Medicine addresses the body's internal and external environments. The external environment is considered in the treatment of allergies, sensitivities, toxicities and the individual's ability to detoxify and the internal is considered for the role the GI tract plays in health - gut flora, integrity of intestinal wall, nutrient absorption and the immune system.

Environmental Medicine concerns itself with physical and psychological symptoms resulting from allergies or sensitivity to inhalants, foods, beverages and chemical substances in air, water and food. The central nervous system, is especially susceptible to the consequences of allergens and toxins. People who exhibit physical or mental illness are suspected of experiencing a sensitivity to an environmental condition that has upset the balance of nutrients in their body.

Treatment with this healing modality will involve the elimination of as many environmental toxins as possible. A physical exercise and relaxation program will be advised. Any stresses of an emotional, psychological or social nature will also need to be considered as part of a total treatment program.

Nutritional and Environmental Medicine

In combination are defined as the study of interactions of nutritional and environmental factors with human physiology, biochemistry, pathology and anatomy and the clinical application of these interactions in the optimisation of health and prevention and treatment of disease. This form of treatment may require the removal of particular foods or chemicals from the patient's environment, rotation diets and the supply of vitamins, minerals, trace elements and essential fatty acids, herbs or other nutritional supplements in order to recover from cellular dysfunction and illness. The foundation philosophy of this modality is aligned with Naturopathic principles and is a drug-free Natural Medicine.
