Zen Shiatsu therapy is a favoured Japanese traditional bodywork healing art based on Oriental medical theory using the power and sensitivity of touch to support the body to relax deeply and maintain health and facilitate improvement in a wide range of conditions.
Shiatsu follows our instinctive movement to touch or press a place of pain or discomfort. Based on proven principles of Oriental Medicine and acupuncture practised for 3000 years which view good health as dependent on dynamically balanced and co-ordinated interaction between all the body’s functions including mind, body and spirit, shiatsu is a powerful, safe, comprehensive system of natural therapy and preventative health care suited to today’s needs.

Coming for a treatment…what else to expect?
In our first session we will discuss your health and determine a treatment approach. Treatment principally takes the form of bodywork, gentle yet firm pressure using my hands, key acupressure points for your condition and beneficial stretches to check and enhance the natural flow of energy through the body, reducing restriction and stimulating areas of lowered vitality.
Shiatsu treatment is given through a layer of comfortable clothing. I can provide something for you to wear or you can bring something to comfortable to wear that’s your own. Depending on your condition you will lie or be seated comfortably.
In keeping with traditional holistic healing practices shiatsu recognises food, movement, lifestyle, the nature of our thoughts, emotional life, environment, all affect our health. If you want to be actively engaged in practical ways to foster your health I offer individualised wholefood guidelines, specific yoga exercises and lifestyle options enabling you to foster prevention or hastening improvement.
How will I benefit?
Receiving Shiatsu is beneficial whether you are in good health or not. It is excellent for maintenance and preventative health. It’s especially useful if you suffer from irritating minor complaints like recurrent mild headaches, other minor aches and pains. Symptoms like these tend to be the body’s early warming signs. Some conditions respond promptly with one treatment, others improve with regular treatment. Shiatsu is an eminently valuable complimentary health care discipline.
The touch, specifically responding to your body’s needs, fosters deep mental and physical relaxation, the most natural way for the body to regenerate. This in turn fosters release of deep muscular tension and optimal internal function.
