ABOUT

WHAT IS OSTEOPATHY?
Lennoxheadquarters osteopaths are government registered health professionals who have undertaken a five year university degree (including Masters of Osteopathic Medicine).

Osteopathy is an overall system of diagnosis and manual therapy used to treat musculoskeletal problems and other functional disorders of the body.

In plain English what that means is we treat muscles, ligaments, joints, nerves, the lymphatic system (garbage dump/drainage system of the body) and blood flow. To reduce pain and discomfort, to optimise function and beyond that to give the body room to allow itself to heal.

Osteopaths recognise that structure and function are reciprocally interrelated and that the body is a complete unit. With this knowledge, treatment aims to optimise the musculoskeletal systems and their interfacing elements such as the nerves, blood vessels, lymphatic tissue and other organ systems.

A common experience after treatment is that patients feel more “free”.

HISTORY OF OSTEOPATHY

In 1872 Dr. A.T. Still recognised that the body contains all the elements necessary for its own healing. He further identified that much of the pain and disability we suffer stems from abnormalities in our body’s structure and function.

Dr DEAN HARDY

Dean has lived his life on the Northern Rivers. Prior to studying osteopathy he was a builder/developer. He loves to surf, camp and travel. Dean lives with his wife and two children in Lennox Head.

Dr Hardy provides osteopathic services to locals in Lennox Head, Byron Bay and Ballina as well as visitors to the area.

SERVICES

TREATMENT

A consultation consists of an interview, then a physical examination followed by treatment with exercises/lifestyle advice as required.

Your privacy and modesty are respected at all times. Examinations are not invasive. Gowns are provided and towels are used effectively throughout the treatment to drape and cover the body.

In the interview we take a detailed medical history and review any images, x-rays or scans you may have.

The physical examination aims to find the site of your symptoms as well as their source, so that we can move toward long term as well as short term relief. It involves neurological and orthopaedic examination, paying attention to restrictions in range of motion in all vectors and associated muscle spasm. We use palpation to reveal tenderness around these areas.

Treatment involves a variety of soft tissue, muscle energy, joint manipulation and articulatory techniques to help decrease pain and increase range of motion. We also use cupping and dry needling to treat the body.

We often provide a home exercise/stretch program with the goal of increasing range of motion, decreasing pain and improving quality of life, so patients can speed up the healing process while away from the clinic.
