Over the years Clinical Hypnotherapy has become increasingly accepted by the medical world as a useful tool both for overcoming addictions and habits as well as reducing stress, anxieties fears, phobias and pain.

What is Hypnotherapy?

Hypnotherapy is a combination of hypnosis and therapy. Hypnosis is a state we all experience several times a day. It's that stage between waking and sleeping or when you're day dreaming. It's natural and normal, which makes it very to use. It is not stage hypnosis. In a clinical setting you will feel deeply relaxed but able to open your eyes at any time. You are, as in those normal states, always in control.

What makes hypnotherapy different from those normal states you experience is the therapy that is attached to it. Each issue you come to my practice with is explored in depth to find the root cause. Everything has a starting point. And this is where the work is done. In the deeply relaxed state of hypnosis you will be gently guided through a process to change these thought patterns and experiences to create a more positive approach in your life.

It may be that you want to stop smoking, loose weight, overcome your fear of flying, or cope better with the stresses of work or family. Perhaps you have a drug or alcohol addiction that is getting in the way of you living your life as you'd like it to be. Hypnotherapy is a useful tool in supporting the transition from where you are to where you would like to be.

How many Hypnotherapy sessions will I need?

The number of hypnotherapy sessions required to depends on 2 things; the first is the issue you are coming with and the second is your willingness to allow the change to happen. Sometimes the devil you know is easier than the one you don't. It is not possible to take a behaviour or way of being away without it being replaced by something else.




What can Hypnotherapy treat?

Smoking

Every tried to stop smoking unsupported? What happened? Did you replace it with eating lollies or other behaviours which in turn caused other problems? With Hypnotherapy cravings are reduced and the smoking is replaced with healthy alternatives of your choice designed to enhance your lifestyle. We will look at the reasons you started smoking because, unless there is a change here, the behaviour will persist. How long this process takes depends on the individual. For some it is easy to stop smoking after one session. The skill, however, is in having you stay stopped. Some people are able to successfully stop after one session, others require on 3 or 4sessions. For this reason I recommend several spaced sessions to reinforce the process.

Pain Management

Even with managing pain, something we'd all like to be without, we can become used to having it in our lives. Our days may be structured around it or our routines restricted. What would it mean to dramatically reduce your levels of pain? You may have to change your life or your lifestyle. Are you ready for this? Because if you are, there are so many great things waiting for you in the wings once that pain is reduced!

Weight Reduction

With our busy and often sedentary lifestyles, it can be hard to keep those extra kilos away. Pushed for time we may find we snack on fattening foods and then are too full to eat a healthy dinner (or maybe the dinner is eaten as well!). Hypnotherapy can support your willingness to eat healthy foods whilst reducing your tastes for those things we love to eat and know we shouldn't. And what about the self esteem or depression once those clothes no longer fit? Makes you want to eat more? You have the opportunity to stop this process in its tracks if you are willing. Again, these may be well established patterns of behaviours and will not be 'fixed' over night. It takes a committment on your part to follow through. Again, whilst there are never any guarantees, it is very likely you will experience a difference to your relationship with food after the first session. It may take several sessions to ensure positive behaviours are maintained for weight reduction.

Eating Disorders

Bulimia and anorexia are life threatening disorders and need to be managed through a range of modalities. Hypnotherapy is a useful tool in these circumstances to work with the anxiety and depression which surrounds these illnesses.

Stress and Sleeping

City life can be very busy. Do you have problems trying to fit everything in and find at the end of the day you may feel really tired but have trouble sleeping. Perhaps you fall asleep but wake up several times in the night. Many of us are stressed and sleep deprived. Hypnotherapy can be effective in reducing that stress through deep relaxation and dealing with those excess anxieties. Specific techniques are used to encourage deep and restful sleep all through the night.

I have a Graduate Diploma in Counselling and I am a fully qualified and registered hypnotherapist and able to offer Medibank health fund rebates. I am a member of the Australian Association of Clinical Hypnotherapist Practitioners and listed on the Australian National Hypnotherapy Register. I comply with a strict code of conduct and am required to continually update my professional skills.

Whilst I work across many areas I have a special interest in pain reduction, stress management and eating disorders.

We are all individuals with our own coping methods. So, whilst there are no hard and fast rules around the length of time it may take to change behaviour, the speed of change is directly related to motivation.
