ACUPUNCTURE, PREGNANCY AND FERTILITY

Acupuncture and Chinese Medicine can Improve Fertility.
Let us help you increase your chances of becoming pregnant with acupuncture and Chinese medicine combined with common sense dietary changes and nutrition.
For some women there may be only a slight imbalance of the reproductive system. Often by correcting this imbalance using Chinese medicine and acupuncture to regulate the reproductive hormones and the menstrual cycle, making dietary changes and addressing stress, sleep or lifestyle issues, fertility can be restored.
If you suffer from endometriosis, polycystic ovarian syndrome, ovarian cysts, or other gynaecological disorders, acupuncture can offer an effective drug free treatment or can be used in conjunction with standard medical treatments to help improve your reproductive health, increase your fertility and help you conceive naturally.

How does Acupuncture improve fertility
With Catherine's background in medical science and medical research, she is always interested in good quality research related to acupuncture. Chinese medicine has a very long history in treating women with infertility, over 2000 years in fact! However modern scientific research is beginning to confirm what Chinese medicine practitioners have always known.
Acupuncture can:
♦ Improve ovarian function - Ultrasounds have shown that after acupuncture treatment a women's ovaries can change from cloudy to bright clear.
♦ Regulate reproductive hormones
♦ Increase blood flow to the uterus and increase the thickness of the uterine lining to assist implantation
♦ Strengthen the immune system
♦ Improve relaxation and sleep and reduce stress

Acupuncture can Increase Pregnancy Rates of Couples Using IVF.
In February this year the British Medical Journal published a review of the results of seven trials investigating the effects of acupuncture on IVF treatment and concluded that acupuncture can increase the chances of pregnancy by 65%.

What is involved?
If you are considering assisted reproduction we recommend that you start acupuncture treatments 3 months before an IVF cycle to improve your general health and regulate your menstrual cycle to give you the optimum chance of success. Treatment once a fortnight is usually sufficient during this stage.
Once your IVF cycle has begun, treatment will focus on supporting ovarian function and thickening the uterine lining as well as minimising the side effects of the IVF drugs.
Treatment pre-transfer will help to further increase the uterine lining to assist implantation. Acupuncture at this stage can help keep you calm, relaxing the uterus to minimise uterine contraction.
After transfer, acupuncture is important to assist blood flow in the uterus and nourish embryo growth as well as continuing to reduce any uterine contrations that may lead to bleeding or miscarriage.

Acupuncture and Male Fertility
Often overlooked is the fact that over 40% of all fertility problems are due to male factors.
With the help of acupuncture and Chinese medicine, it is possible to improve the quality and quantity of sperm. Because sperm take at least 3 months to mature, regular acupuncture treatment is suggested for at least 3 months to optimise the chances of a couple conceiving and maintaining a healthy pregnancy.

Acupuncture, Stress and Fertility
Most people are aware that constant stress is a contributing factor to a lot of fertility issues.
Our lifestyles have become so busy and hectic, with worries and social pressures that sometimes we forget how to relax. This is where acupuncture is particulary helpful - to lower anxiety and improve sleep - and therefore lowering stress hormones that can have an adverse effect on fertility. I will also recommend and help you maintain a healthy diet that can help regulate insulin levels, reduce stress hormones and have you feeling great.

Acupuncture and Pregnancy
Acupuncture is a safe and effective way to boost and maintain optimum health during your pregnancy.
As well as nourishing mother and baby, acupuncture offers an effective, natural and drug free treatment option for many of the common ailments or discomforts experienced during pregnancy
♦ Morning sickness
♦ Threatened miscarriage
♦ Breech presentation
♦ Pregnancy aches and pains
♦ Difficulty sleeping
♦ Sinus congestion
♦ Anxiety........and more

Acupuncture closer to the birth can help prepare your body for a more efficient labour and delivery, dissolving blocked energy that may be making you tense or anxious and improving your energy and stamina. At this stage, acupuncture can help prepare the uterus and ripen and relax the cervix. If you are past your due date, we can help iniduce your labour in a gentle and natural way.
During these treatments we will give you information and instruction on the use of acupressure during birth. When correctly used, acupressure can be a powerful way to control pain and increase the efficiency of contractions.
