About Me

I am a mum of two young children and to me, being a Doula and educator is more of a ‘calling’ or a purpose in life, than it is a ‘job’. I love everything about it, I desire to protect, guide and fill-in wherever the mum is needing it. After bub arrives is another big chapter in her life that she won't forget, so I want to help make this postnatal time as smooth as possible, with encouragement, love and support. No woman was meant to enter motherhood alone, and no woman should have to..

My name is Nadia Taylor and I am originally from Seattle, Washington, USA. I am married to a wonderful Aussie and we have two young children.

What is a Doula?

WHAT DOES THE WORD DOULA MEAN?

The word “doula” comes from the ancient Greek meaning “a woman who serves” and is now used to refer to a trained and experienced professional who provides continuous physical, emotional and informational support to the mother before, during and just after birth; or who provides emotional and practical support during the postpartum period. Studies have shown that when doulas attend birth, labors are shorter with fewer complications, babies are healthier and they breastfeed more easily.

A BIRTH DOULA & help;. Recognizes birth as a key experience the mother will remember all her life Understands the physiology of birth and the emotional needs of a woman in labor Assists the woman in preparing for and carrying out her plans for birth Stays with the woman throughout the labor Provides emotional support, physical comfort measures and an objective viewpoint, as well as helping the woman get the information she needs to make informed decision Facilitates communication between the laboring woman, her partner and her clinical care providers Perceives her role as nurturing and protecting the woman’s memory of the birth experience Allows the woman’s partner to participate at his/her comfort level. (A birth doula certified by DONA International is designated by the initials CD(DONA).)

My Postpartum services include education, companionship and nonjudgmental support during the postpartum fourth trimester. I will assist with newborn care, breastfeeding support, family adjustment, meal preparation, house cleaning, laundry and also watching siblings if needed. We again are just filling in what tasks are not able to get done and help make this transition as smooth as possible with providing not just physical support, but emotional support as well which is huge when mothers either have no one else home, or they just want to be left alone, because there is just to many visitors!

I also offer a antenatal consultations to just give you the best information to make informed decision if they were to arise, help fine tune your birth plan/birth wish list, and answer any last minute questions or concerns you or your partner have before your due date.

Last service I provide is a birth debriefing session, for anyone needing some closure from their birth experience(s) or questions they just need answered in order to move on....and be at peace. I am a great listener and if all you need is just to share your experience or the way you were treated during your labour and birth, I'm hear to listen.
