Does your child suffer from:

Do they also suffer:
    • Asthma
    • Eczema
    • Allergies and sensitivities to food and environment
    • Diarrhoea or constipation

    • Gut pain or discomfort
If so then it is possible your child could be suffering from one or more of the following:
    • Leaky gut syndrome
    • Digestive dysfunction
    • Poor dietary choices
    • Nutritional deficiencies
    • Food intolerances
    • Candida overgrowth
    • Heavy metal toxicity

Incidence
20 years ago the incidence of Autism in Australia was 1 child in 10,000. In Australia today, 1 child in 125 is diagnosed with Autism. Genetics alone cannot cause an epidemic. A combination of genetic vulnerability and more importantly environmental factors is responsible for the massive increase in Autism.

What causes these problems?
There are many culminating factors involved in gut, immune and neurological disorders. Common environmental factors include significant rises in pollution, heavy metals, poor food choices, food contamination, medications and stress. All have a direct and detrimental effect on cellular health.
When looking into other factors that contribute to ASD and AD/HD you will always find a family history of allergies, eczema, asthma, depression, schizophrenia, thrush, irritable bowel syndrome, inflammatory gut disorders and or autoimmune diseases.

What is the Solution?
Previously considered to be a psychological condition, leading physicians have now found that Autistic children have many common underlying conditions involving the gut and immune systems. These have been shown to lead to the neurological symptoms of Autism and other Autistic Spectrum Disorders (ASDs). The biomedical approach addresses these underlying factors.
There are five key principals to the biomedical approach to Autism, ADH/D and ASD’s. They are:
    1. Dietary intervention
    2. Digestive tract healing
    3. Immune system regulation
    4. Nutritional medicine
    5. Detoxification

Neuro-Developmental and Behavioural Therapies
Medications may also be necessary for some children.
Working with diet offers a drug-free approach to the treatment of ASD and AD/HD. It also builds the very important foundations on which medical treatment can be given in a safer, more effective manner.
The aim of dietary intervention is to help correct nutritional imbalances, resolve gut dysbiosis and heal the gut wall, enabling its function of digestion, absorption and elimination to work effectively. By doing this the immune system is strengthened, resulting in fewer infections and an improved ability for the body to detoxify itself. Neurotransmitters which affect behaviours, concentration, mood, sleep and addictions are also balanced by resolving the nutritional deficiencies that create an imbalance of these critical brain chemicals.
It is important that dietary modification be done concurrently with nutritional medicine, gut repair and detoxification for optimal results.

Where to start?
Naturopath and nutritionist Helen Padarin has a special interest in working with children and adults with Autism, ASD, ADH/D, asthma, eczema and allergies. She is passionate about educating and empowering individuals and families to understand the underlying causes of these conditions, so they feel confident to make healthy proactive choices.
Helen is concerned about food and environmental factors today that are having such a detrimental impact on the health of our children. She has a strong focus on wholesome diet, healthy gut and immune function, optimal nutritional status and ensuring a healthy lifestyle and environment.

What Kind of Diet?
Several Diets have been shown to be beneficial for many children with Autism, ASD, AD/HD and other associated disorders. Each child is different, so there is not a “one size fits all” approach. Different children do better on different diets, and some children need a combination of diets. The most common diets used are:
    • Gluten Free and Casein Free (GF/CF)
    • Body Ecology Diet (BED)
    • Gut and Psychology Syndrome Diets (GAPS) / Specific Carbohydrate Diet (SCD)
    • Nourishing Traditions
    • Low Allergy Diet
    • Low oxalate Diet
    • Palaeolithic Diet
    • Failsafe Diet
    • Blood Type Diet
    • Yeast free / Anti-Candida Diet
    • Phenol / Salicylate Free Diet
Helen can help you understand the importance of dietary intervention and guide you through which diet is suitable for your child. She will guide you step by step in order to make the changes as smooth as possible. Helen works closely with Dr Antony Underwood in order to achieve the best possible results for your child, and your family.
