About Us

Susan holds a passionate interest in helping clients with chronic medical conditions such as diabetes, hypertension, arthritis, weight management and IBS to meet their health goals. Susan is also interested in the areas of aged care, disability and children's nutrition.

As an APD, Susan is recognised by the Australian Government as a nutrition expert, qualified to provide medical nutrition therapy because APDs provide up to date, scientifically sound, evidence based nutrition advice. Given the conflicting and confusing stories about food and nutrition in the popular media, it is comforting to know who you can trust. APDs are the only nutrition professionals registered to provide nutrition services under Medicare and DVA.

Nutrition Insight clinics provide nutrition and dietitian services in Brisbane's southern suburbs.

Nutrition in Aged Care

Susan, provides expert nutrition consultancy services to residential aged care facilities and community groups involved with providing support services to the elderly. Susan can also conduct menu reviews.

Good quality food and nutrition is important in healthy ageing. As we age our requirements for many nutrients including protein, calcium, folate and vitamins B12 and D increase. At the same time our energy (calorie) needs may reduce. This means that we need to be able to obtain all our nutrition from a smaller amount of nutritious foods. In addition, challenges such as an altered sense of taste, dental and swallowing problems, disease, memory problems, multiple medications and gut issues may all effect our appetite and food intake.

Poor appetite and unplanned weight loss are both indicators of malnutrition risk. Ideally nutrition is obtained from foods, however, when this is not possible, expert advice can be provided on suitable nutrition products to supplement the diet.

About Nutritionists and Dietitians

Dietitians with the APD credential (Accredited Practising Dietitian) are the only nutrition professionals recognised by the Australian Government to provide services under Medicare and Department of Veterans Affairs (DVA). All dietitians are university trained for a minimum of 4 years. APD dietitians are required to participate in ongoing professional development to keep their knowledge and skills in line with best practice evidence. All APDs are registered with the Dietitians Association of Australia (DAA).

Dietitians are qualified to provide personalised clinical assessments and care plans to meet the needs of individuals and can also call themselves nutritionists. Not all nutritionists possess the qualifications to use the title "dietitian".
