A little bit about me and how I came to love Reiki

About 10 years ago now I attended a Level 1 Reiki workshop. I left feeling so relaxed and peaceful I really couldn’t believe the difference I was experiencing. Level 2 followed a year later then level 3 but it was the first reaction that convinced me, in years to come, I would love to help others to experience the same feeling of peace and relaxation I had enjoyed.

Now I have the time and am working from a small bungalow at the back of my house. It sits under two large trees the birds love to sit in, unknowingly, making your Reiki session even more relaxing!! Inside there is a pot belly stove for the colder weather and an air conditioner for summer. The reaction of most people walking in is “this is so relaxing”. As far as I’m concerned, we’re off to a good start.

FIVE REIKI PRINCIPLES WE CAN ALL USE IN OUR DAILY LIVES

Just for today, I will not be angry.
Just for today, I will not worry.
Just for today, I will be grateful
Just for today, I will do my work honestly.
Just for today, I will be kind to all living things.

We all seem to be so busy we forget what it is like to feel relaxed and to enjoy a feeling of wellbeing.

We juggle our families, home, work, finances, sports, ageing parents, childrens’ activities – it can be (or seems like) an endless list.

A Reiki session can help you rediscover what feeling relaxed and calm feels like.

A Reiki treatment is the most relaxing experience you can imagine.  Reiki (life force energy) flows through the practitioner to the recipient so that the body can heal itself in a very gentle way on three levels – body, mind, spirit, helping to attain and maintain physical and emotional balance.

By balancing the chakras, Reiki brings a deep sense of peace and wellbeing.  By supporting and re-energizing the physical body and helping to clear emotional blockages, we are happier, more grounded and better able to move forward in our lives. Even the everyday tasks seem easier.

Reiki can help with:

  • Emotional distress during or following serious illness. Diagnosis of an illness, particularly a life threatening one brings with it many feelings including shock, anger, uncertainty, fear, worry for others as well as yourself – how will you manage physically and financially while you go through your treatment plan and then recuperation? How will your family cope with the process? All normal reactions but all sending mind and body into over drive. Reiki is so gentle and healing, you will begin to relax almost immediately. Sometimes, you just simply have to stop, then with a clearer mind, proceed in your life.

  • Sorrow or grieving. For yourself if you have received a diagnosis of a serious or terminal illness or for a partner, child, relative, friend.  There are many emotions to be dealt with as you proceed through treatment.  Finding the strength to help others can leave you feeling depleted at a time when you need the greatest strength. A Reiki session often brings clarity. Once you are no longer weighed down by the grief, the best path for you can become more obvious.

  • Anxiety is a very common mental health disorder.  It can intrude on your daily life, affecting your ability to concentrate, complete tasks. Everything appears to be more difficult. You find yourself feeling tense and unsure of yourself or your abilities.  As you become more anxious, the cycle escalates into all areas of your life. Reiki soothes and calms the body, allowing you to see how you used to feel – calm and able to manage. That is the aim – to feel calm and to acknowledge your anxiety. By acknowledging the anxiety you are better prepared to work out what you have to do in your life to be in that state of calm.

  • Insomnia. When you are overwhelmed, anxious, worried, stressed, your body simply can’t relax enough to let you sleep.  Your mind is spinning round and round. Reiki helps to calm the mind and the physical body, allowing your spirit to relax. That calm enables your whole body to rebalance so you can relax. When you sleep your body is able to heal itself on all levels.

  • Stress and feeling overwhelmed. As with anxiety and insomnia, stress or stressful situations, particularly ongoing ones, lead to feelings of helplessness or feeling unable to cope with the situation whether it’s personal, work or situation related.

  • Pain reduction.  From the side effects following an operation or procedure, perhaps cancer treatment.  Reiki works very well with medical and other therapeutic techniques to relieve painful or uncomfortable side effects.  It is very safe, in no way interfering with medical care.  Under no circumstances should medications be changed without consulting your health professional.

For all the issues mentioned, the body needs to relax and recuperate from life’s stressors, reducing pain, discomfort and stress.  Reiki helps quieten the mind so the whole body can relax, regroup and recover.
