WHAT IS RESILIENCE COACHING?

Each person experiences pressure in their own unique way. Some thrive on it, seemingly effortlessly going for days on end without missing a beat, while others don’t appear to have the same ability. Stress and anxiety are both debilitating when not managed well and are often responsible for longer term chronic health conditions.

Using counselling, coaching, mindfulness and various psychotherapeutic techniques such as hypnotherapy, you and I work together as a team to bring out your very best way of managing your body, mind and life.

As the primary team member, you are the expert on yourself, the one that takes responsibility for making the changes where required and for doing the exploration of your inner world. As a qualified and registered therapist, I can assist you with developing new living skills and new ways of thinking that will empower you to handle pressure more readily, from the inside out. This further assists you make more confident choices about your future while responding more appropriately in the present. SUFFERING FROM STRESS AND ANXIETY ISN’T NECESSARY

Clinical research shows that 80% of disease is stress related with prolonged periods of stress leading to chronic health issues. Although stress impacts our lives in every corner, causing car accidents, damaging relationships and prolonging illness, it can be ‘treated’ by growing your ability to manage your thoughts, feelings and behaviours.

The body is not meant to live in a perpetual state of stress. It functions at its best in the opposite state, a state of relaxed awareness.

Just as the stress response is triggered, so too can the relaxation response. This can be learned and practiced as a conscious process, one that you take away and do as often as possible.

Working together with a therapist using a range of tools to help you realign your beliefs with a more resilient body-mind, brings relief to you much faster than trying to do it on your own.

We have grown into habitual ways of running our body-mind, with habits and specific thoughts that may span decades. However, it’s never too late to change those patterns and through the science and research that has been applied within neurophysiology, we now know that neuro-plasticity is the truth. We know beyond a doubt that the brain can be totally rewired with a set of beliefs that really serve you well.

HOW DO YOU BUILD RESILIENCE?

Resilience is one’s ability to cope and move along with stressful situations as they arise. Physical, mental and emotional resilience can be improved by strengthening the natural capacity you ALREADY have within each realm.

You can improve your capacity for resilience at any time of life and you do this by building on the resilience skills in a holistic way, as all of you is important.

At the foundation of your resilience is a positive and effective self-image as this flavours your entire experience as a major factor for determining your thoughts, feelings and behaviours.

CLINICALLY EFFECTIVE

Psychiatrists, Coaches, Counsellors and many other therapists from around the world are turning to powerful psychotherapeutic tools like clinical hypnotherapy and mindfulness to make lasting changes for their clients and patients. These tools have often become the therapist’s first choice, no matter what the ailment, as the tools build awareness and directly address the underlying cause of distress, rather than simply masking the cause by addressing symptoms.

Research studies have been taking place into mindfulness and meditation practices over the last 50 years while the research into hypnosis has been carried out over the last 150 years in a western setting. Clinical hypnotherapy has really proven its effectiveness over the last 70 years thanks largely to the work of Dr. Milton Erickson, an American psychiatrist and psychologist who founded The American Society of Clinical Hypnosis in 1957.

As far back as 1958, the American Medical Association (AMA) concluded after many studies that “the use of hypnosis has a recognized place in the medical armamentarium and is a useful technique in the treatment of certain illnesses when employed by qualified medical and dental personnel.”

Countless clinical hours have proven the effectiveness of psychotherapy and hypnosis, with damaging habits such as gambling, smoking, drinking and drug addiction being removed from the person’s life, often in only a few sessions. This is especially the case with Smoking Cessation where a success rate in excess of 95% is attributed to many two session programs. Single session programs often fall short at 60%, however, even at this reduced rate, success is achievable for over half the smokers treated.*

Emotional distress and behavioural problems of all types can also be treated best in a One on One program, as these methods also address the very causes of the challenge presented. The number of sessions required depends on many factors such as a willingness to explore, a person’s natural tendency to relax, the nature of the challenge, cognitive variations and so on. Progress can often be seen in only 2 or 3 sessions.

NOTE: Please be wary of any Stop Smoking Specialists claiming 100% success with one session smoking cessation, as this type of advertising is illegal and misconstrued. They are not registered or ethical practitioners.


YOUR BELIEFS AND THE WAY YOU THINK AFFECT YOUR LIFE...

Your beliefs form mostly in your early years as your environment and experiences informed your early human reality. Beliefs work like little computer programs running in the back of the mind, telling you what to pay attention to and how to behave at an unconscious level. As we get older, we tend to run our lives from the subconscious mind using the pre-programmed habits that were formed in the past.

Your strongest and most influential beliefs are often formed through traumatic or intensely emotional events which you have applied meaning to and have stored in the subconscious mind. This is a natural mechanism which has both benefits and drawbacks, but it is designed to help you stay safe and fit in with your surroundings.

A common misconception about beliefs is that they are set into the mind like concrete, becoming an immovable force that controls your every thought and move. While they are a powerful motivating force that shapes and becomes your very reality, they are not simply a fixed mental program, they are wired into the entire body-mind, incorporating all manner of chemical releases and emotions as well as thoughts. The thing to know is that most importantly and extremely fortunately, beliefs are changeable.

Take a moment to consider that your beliefs are a choice. Not just a choice from now on, now that you are consciously aware of it, but they always have been a choice. At some age and for some reason you chose all of the beliefs you currently hold.

It’s more than likely you chose them because you were only presented with one viewpoint, usually the viewpoint of your parents or guardians. It is unfortunate that our immature minds are not set up to think critically for themselves at the age when they are most impressionable, so you can be forgiven for missing the fact.

Now that you are older and wiser, you have the power to choose new beliefs where the old ones no longer serve you.

AFFORDABLE HEALTH CARE

In Australia, our public health care system has some way to catch up with other countries, as patients are not yet able to choose a coach or clinical hypnotherapist as a preferred health care provider to address their mental health plan.

However, we are making progress, as many private health funds do offer assistance in Australia for hypnotherapy treatments. Please check with your health fund to see if yours complies with the highest health care standards.

Your mental health is the most important area you can choose to focus in, in order for you to achieving a balanced and enjoyable life. A disempowered mindset will impact on every other area of life.
