At Yoga Life Works You'll Learn Svaroopa® Yoga

This is a dramatically different and powerful style of yoga – it’s gentle and easy but profoundly healing on all levels. Svaroopa® Yoga is not about intense stretching or about learning how to stand on your head – it’s about deep and core openings in your entire spine from your tailbone to your neck. By using simple movements, deep breathing and full support of your body with props like blankets and blocks, you are held in precise alignment and encouraged to become more open and flexible. Each class includes a guided awareness and relaxation, breathing and yoga poses. Svaroopa® Yoga is therapeutic and is suitable for ANY body and all levels of experience from the complete beginner to the long-term yoga practitioner.

When you practice yoga your breathing will be totally relaxed and there’s no sense of force, exertion or strain when holding the postures. Although the poses look easy, you’ll experience a deep release, opening in your joints and a lengthening of your spine. Svarupa (the original Sanskrit spelling) is a Sanskrit word that means knowing yourself at the deepest level of your being and because transformation is common when people practice this form of yoga, every class feels like a healing therapy.

The most common things people experience with regular Svaroopa® Yoga practice are:

Throughout the year we also teach yoga workshops to take your practice to the next level. These workshops will dive deeply into and target a particular body part such as abdominals, upper spinal release, lower spinal release and the power of standing poses. You’ll learn how to use your body in a new way, become more aware of the subtleties of movement that can affect you and allow experiential anatomy to guide you to a new knowledge of how your unique body works.

Researchers at RMIT University in Melbourne in 2008 have conducted the world’s largest survey of yoga with over 4000 Australians participating. Of all the conditions reported as being addressed by yoga, 53% were rated “much better”, 29% “better” and 12% little better. This is a remarkable phenomenon. It seems that whatever condition people used yoga for, it improved. Overall. 96% of people found their condition improved by yoga with the remaining 4% reporting their condition much the same.

Autumn / Winter Class Timetable 2011
Our classes run on Wednesdays at 9.30am and 4.30pm and Thursdays at 6.30pm according to Queensland School Terms with 4 terms in a year. Holiday classes will also be run with the times and dates being announced throughout the year.

At Yoga Life Works, we’re doing something a bit different - we specialise in Yoga for older adults - people over 50. We’ve seen clearly that as we mature, our bodies have different needs and abilities so our exercise and movements need to reflect those differences. Our minds also change with age - we become more confident and sure of ourselves, more compassionate and aware and an increasing desire to look after our bodies grows. Yoga is the perfect compliment for the busy lives of older adults and can be modified to suit your timetable and unique needs. It will give your body greater health, wellness and flexibility and your mind, the inner world, greater peace and stillness.



The Studio
Yoga Life Works is located at 72 Greenslade St, Tingalpa and is just near the entrance to the Gateway Motorway and parallel to Wynnum Rd. We've put a lot of love into creating a sacred and beautiful space for you, away from the hassles and pressures of everyday life - somewhere you can come and relax, let go and renew your body and mind.

The studio is in a residential area and bordered by a serene and peaceful wildlife park and is accessed via a garden path around the right hand side of the building. Parking is easy and free on the street and by the park.



Getting prepared for class
At Yoga Life Works, we supply all the necessary mats and blankets and equipment you need for a great practice. Simply wear loose and comfortable clothing that is easy to move in. We ask that you arrive 10 minutes early so we can sort out any necessary paperwork and payment and discuss any health concerns you may have. This way, you can get the most out of class without any pressure and it will help us to begin and end on time for your convenience.

Aim to eat at least 2 - 3 hours before coming to class also - it can feel like an uncomfortable weight in the belly when moving through the poses otherwise. If you feel hungry, have a small, light snack like fruit or a smoothie instead.



Booking into a course or class
Yoga Life Works is a boutique yoga studio and we pride ourselves on giving each and every student the time and attention they need to gain maximum benefit from the poses with lots of personalised adjustments and instructions. Because of this, each course is limited to 8 participants and all courses need to be pre-booked and pre-paid to confirm your place. To book into a course, contact us on 0457 835 009 or email. We’ll then invoice you the course amount. Payments can be made by cash, cheque or direct deposit.

Monday morning, Wednesday afternoon, Thursday evening classes and Saturday classes are ongoing but because of limited space bookings are essential – phone, text or email to book in! Many students who practice regularly commit to the same class time each week and then only contact us if they can’t make it that week.
