Deafness and Hearing Problems

Deafness and hearing problems occur commonly in the elderly but they can also be hereditary or be brought on at any age, usually by illness or exposure to environmental factors. The different types of hearing loss include presbycusis, tinnitus (ringing or other sounds in the ear), conductive hearing loss and sensorineural hearing loss. Conventional treatment for hearing loss includes the fitting of a hearing aid, cochlear implants, medication or surgery. Alternative treatments include homoeopathy, acupuncture, nutritional therapy and herbal therapy.
