What is Tai Chi & Qigong?

Tai Chi or in full ‘Tai Chi Chuan’ which means ‘Supreme Ultimate Fist’. As opposed to referring to combat fighting techniques our Tai Chi is an internal martial art, utilising internal energy, chi or life force energy to develop relaxation and health.

It is an exercise that utilises the entire body and also uses the whole mind through relaxation and gentle physical stretching in which each position flows into the next so that they body is in constant motion.

Qigong means to ‘cultivate energy’ – ‘chi’ or ‘qi’ which means ‘energy’ and ‘gong’ which means ‘skill’. Chi flows through the meridians which are an invisible network of pathways and channels along which the chi will flow.

Why is it good for you?

Tai Chi helps to develop, store and utilise Chi (energy) as the movements are carefully chosen to help the circulatory system, to boost the immune systems, to enhance levels of energy, and to develop flexibility, balance and coordination leading to a balance of body, mind, spirit and emotions.

It is the science and the art of utilising breathing techniques, gentle movement and meditation to strengthen and circulate life energy whilst using body positioning, theories of movement and breathing.
