History of Dentistry

In the early days of dentistry, the main dental procedure carried out was an extraction (a treatment done by barbers!). It was later that “hole treatment” started mainly by replacing lost tooth structure with a filling.

Modern dentistry is constantly advancing in diagnoses and treatment. Emphasis is now placed on prevention and early diagnosis rather than mechanically treating dental problems.

Dental Clinic

Lead by Dr.Mamatha Srinivasaiah is a qualified and experienced dentist. She is a member of the Australian Dental Association (ADA) and has worked in private setting before.

She constantly updates her knowledge to keep in step with current trends by being involved in a number of educational activities.

At the chair side, Mamatha is gentle and listens to her patients. Care is taken to ensure that the patient is comfortable and well informed about the procedure to avoid anxiety.

Dr. Mamatha offers many dentist services such as:
  • Examination and Diagnosis: Examination of the mouth is not limited to examination of the teeth and gums but extends to other oral tissues. This may be further aided by the use of other diagnostic aids such as radiographs, study models and a detailed examination of periodontal tissues.
  • Preventive dentistry: This includes fluoride treatment, pit and fissure sealants and scaling and cleaning. Preventive dentistry also involves dietary advice and oral hygiene instruction.
  • Restorative dentistry: This aspect of dentistry replaces lost tooth structure, these are silver amalgam restorations, white composite restorations, veneers, crown and bridge.
  • Endodontics: The main aim of endodontics is to retain a tooth that has advanced decay and cannot be restored by a simple filling.
  • Extractions: Usually done as a last resort when it is no longer possible to retain teeth in the mouth for a number of reasons.
  • Bleaching: A cosmetic approach to brighten the smile. Both in-office and take-home systems are available.
  • Paediatric Dentistry: Looks at treating dental problems in children
Our team aims to make patients comfortable. The approach is gentle. All diagnoses and treatment plan is explained to patients as clearly as possible. Prompt specialist referral is made when necessary.

General Dentistry

A dental exam and subsequent treatment planning does not merely involve a provision of quote for fillings, extractions, crowns and bridges, etc.

In an ideal setting, a dental exam and subsequent treatment planning should also involve a discussion on lifestyle modification to minimize the harmful effects on teeth. Expensive treatment done can be useless A treatment planning should involve patient concerns and should centre around the patient’s needs.

Our team is able to provide a range of general dental services which include but are not limited to examination, scale and clean, restorations (fillings), crown and bridge services, cosmetic treatments such as veneers and bleaching and dentures. We provide you with enough opportunities to discuss your concerns and our recommendations.

Cosmetic Dentistry

Everyone likes a bright white smile. The simplest methods to achieving a good outcome is through bleaching and veneers.

Bleaching or Tooth whitening is a very conservative treatment. A take-home kit is convenient however the results are achieved over a period of time. An in-office bleaching procedure is quicker and uses a higher concentration, therefore reducing the time. Tooth sensitivity is a side effect of bleaching which varies in intensity between individuals and usually subsides with time.

Veneers, on the other hand, are used to change the shape of teeth, close gaps and can cover the stains that cannot be removed by bleaching.

Denture Services

Many dental patients with missing teeth know that almost always an implant is the best option for replacing missing teeth. However, not everyone is a good candidate for implants due to medical reasons and/or financial reasons. An easier and cheaper alternative to implants, especially when many teeth are missing, is dentures.

Dentures provide an easy aesthetic and functional replacement of teeth. At our practice, we are able to provide both complete and removable partial dentures. We are able to take your input regarding shape and shade of teeth you want for your dentures.

Removable dentures can either be acrylic (plastic) or metal based.

Flexible dentures are also an option in some cases. This is very good for those patients considering wearing dentures in the short term while a permanent treatment option is being considered. Flexible dentures do not contain metal parts.

Our services also extend to denture repairs, relines, addition of teeth, etc. We are, sometimes, able to solve some repair issues on site within a short duration! Please make an appointment and don’t forget to bring your denture along to your appointment.

Sleep Apnea

Sleep Apnea is a medical condition. It is not just the unattractive snoring habit that concerns healthcare professionals but its ability to affect the quality of life of such individuals. Sufferers are affected by increased daytime sleepiness and tiredness.

The walls and muscles of the upper airway which includes the tongue, soft palate, etc. relax in such a way during sleep causing the airway to be blocked. The air flow can be blocked causing sleep apnoea.

Mild to moderate forms of sleep apnoea can be treated by the use of oral appliances.

Make your appointment today to discuss this further.

Our clinic is situated in the middle of Berwick with ample parking, which is quite easily accessible for all residents of Berwick, Narre Warren, Cranbourne and Hampton Park.
