Cupping is an ancient Chinese therapy in which a cup is placed on the skin and the pressure inside the cup is reduced (either by suction or heat) in order to draw and hold skin and superficial muscles inside the cup. It is based on the meridians theory of the body. Cupping can remove any stagnation in the body and open the meridians so that energy (Qi) can flow openly. It is also able to help rejuvenate certain organs and meridians that are not functioning at their optimal level. From a scientific stand-point, cupping is known to help to enhance blood circulation, activate the lymphatic system, and is amazingly effective for deep tissue repair. It is generally recommended for the treatment of gastro-intestinal disorders, pain, lung diseases (especially asthma and chronic coughs), and paralysis. The effectiveness of cupping is not limited to this list.

Cupping is applied along the certain acupuncture points as well as to parts of the body that have been affected by pain. Cupping is mostly applied on the back as it is easier to be performed on this area.
