SO HOW DOES THIS WORK?

Firstly. Before you first experience hypnosis and start using it to make wonderful, beneficial changes in your life, I would like to discuss with you “what hypnosis is and how it works” .Also to dispel a few popular myths and misconceptions, that you possibly have about hypnosis. To start with I’d like to explain a bit about how your mind works, so that you have a greater understanding of what we are working with and how. You have your conscious mind which I liken to the keyboard on your computer; it is where all the data is collected. The conscious mind is where we spend most of our time. It has a few parts. One part is our analytical, logical mind. That is the part of us that looks at issues, analyses them, and works out a way to solve those particular issues. It is also the part of us that makes all of the many decisions we have to make, Decisions that we think are automatic, but are not. Eg: what will I wear today? What do I feel like for breakfast? Because we do these things every day we think that they are automatic functions, but our conscious mind is really making these decisions. Then there is the rational mind, this part gives us a reason why we behave in a particular fashion. However the rational mind can often be wrong, an eg of this is when we are bored upset etc we often reach for food, when in actual fact we are not even hungry. Willpower, but we all know how well that works, you can be successful for a short period of time. And finally we have a working memory, this is what we use every day to do everything we need to survive. This covers knowing directions to work, remembering phone numbers, people’s names etc . Then we have the subconscious mind, it is our true self, and has tremendous impact on our conscious mind. I liken the subconscious mind to the hard drive of your computer, it retains all of your information, knowledge, perceptions; the only difference being is that your subconscious also retains everything you’ve seen, heard or felt, in fact all your senses. Our subconscious mind remembers everything, every detail of everything that has ever happened to us or we have done. Our subconscious mind is responsible for our habits, emotions, and protecting us, all of these can be working for or against us. It would be easy to make changes in our lives, but for critical function the fire wall. Its job is to stop any changes, keep you safe, after all haven’t you survived this long, so why change now. So this is where hypnosis comes in, it bypasses critical function. This way you and your therapist can work on changing out dated thought patterns, or responses, after all it is not always appropriate to respond to a given situation the way you did say when you were 5years old, but this is what we do automatically if the same or a similar situation were to arise, after all you did survive then didn’t you? And that is what it is all about survival, so if we wish to change things, the direction of our lives, or change our responses we need to work with our subconscious mind to effect these changes. During hypnosis you are 100% aware of what you are experiencing, you are not unconscious, as how could you communicate with the subconscious mind if the client was unconscious, not possible. You are fully in control, there is no chance ever of you behaving like a ‘chook’ unless that is your desire, that is all created for the audience. When in hypnosis, you are in an extreme state of relaxation, and you must remember that all hypnosis is self hypnosis, the therapist is just the facilitator, the guide to help keep you on track with your goals. And yes everyone with average intelligence or higher can be hypnotised, you just need to be able to focus. And No it is not possible for your therapist to access any of your ‘secrets’, unless you wish him or her to have access to them. As you can see you the client are in 100% control of the entire session/s, you are the one who see’s and feels the results of being under hypnosis; it is your own unique experience, yours to share only if you have the desire.
