Running Injury Therapy and Assessment
Focus areas
Jo uses a number of manual therapy techniques including:
- Fascial Manipulation,
- deep tissue massage,
- stretches,
- Mindful exercises,
- technique correction (video analysis)and
- education.
Sports injuries can occur for a number of reasons:
- Over training
- Under training
- Poor technique/form
- Underlying muscle/soft tissue imbalance
- Underlying internal dysfunction
- Negative stress e.g. pressure to get results, demands on time etc
- Limited knowledge in how the body repairs/heals and improves through graduated training programs
Movement and exercises need to be done mindfully so as to get the quickest and best change in performance and function. It also assists positive neuroplacticity .Our brains change when we do any activity, if we focus on performing activities mindfully we will change the brain’s neural pathways towards more positive habits and pathways.)
Jo does NOT use acupuncture/dry needling/electrotherapy machines!
Jo has taken up distance running since 2010 and so is very interested in treating fellow runners.
Jo also uses running as a moving meditation, where she is moving the energy and blood around her body while focusing her mind on her surroundings or her body reactions. For Jo running is good for the body, mind and soul! It is part of her spiritual practice along with meditation etc.
She is a barefoot/minimal running shoe advocate and believes that we should strengthen the foot rather than protect it with orthotics so we can give more input to the multitude of sensory nerve endings that are in the feet. These sensory nerves help drive our postural tone and muscle function up to the rest of the body. In both Fascial Manipulation and acupuncture the hands and feet are important...the body cannot compensate for imbalances past these points.
