What Is Hypnosis?

The best way to view hypnosis is as a state of intense relaxation and concentration, in which the mind becomes remote and detached from everyday worries and concerns. In this relaxed state the subconscious part of the mind is best able to respond creatively to suggestion and imagery.

How Does Hypnosis Work?

It can focus on the things you wish to change and on the ways you can best do so, free from analytical or anxious thoughts. Because you are deeply relaxed, your concentration and memory are enhanced and the suggestions given to you by the hypnotherapist will be acted upon more easily by the subconscious.

Issues That Can Be Addressed With Hypnotherapy

Hypnotherapy is used for a variety of medical reasons and there are many conditions that respond well. Just as in ancient times, hypnosis still works most efficiently in cases of anxiety and stress-related disorders but it is also effective in a number of other conditions, including:

  • Asthma
  • Insomnia
  • Irritble Bowel Syndrome (IBS) - IBS Clinical Trial linkClick here
  • Eating disorders
  • Weight problems
  • Gastrointestinal problems
  • Pain control
  • Headaches
  • Hypertension
  • Compulsive habits
  • Performance/exam anxiety

Many phobias are also treatable by controlled deconditioning under hypnosis.

The more serious addictions like alcoholism and drug habituation don't respond so well because there's also a considerable biochemical problem to be overcome in these cases.

Can Everyone Be Hypnotised?

Contrary to popular belief, almost everybody is susceptible to hypnosis. Indeed, the more intelligent the person, the better he or she responds. By and large it's easier to hypnotise a willing subject but sceptical or unwilling people can be hypnotised, albeit with greater difficulty.

People whose minds are very active and questioning tend to take longer, too. Good hypnotic subjects usually perceive themselves as co-operative, capable of inward concentration and do not resist transferring from one spatial orientation to another.
