Hello and Welcome

I work with people to relieve issues such as depression, anxiety, relationship problems, addiction and eating disorders. I also work with shorter term issues such as coping with big life changes, and do coaching to help people achieve specific goals and projects, and deal with work issues.


PSYCHOTHERAPY


Psychotherapy is longer term deeper work that works to change deep old patterning by slowly forming new neural pathways in the brain, the person is able to change relating styles, anxiety is eased, they become less triggered and sensitive to old traumas and concerns, effectively rewiring the neural networks in the brain, to create an easier way of being with self and others in the world. Psychotherapy works within a safe relationship to create new ways of being and relating.

I create a safe space for people to learn to live happier more fulfilled lives, with less worry , more resilience, more understanding, ability to navigate through relationship difficulties and enjoy stable supportive relationships, confidence, more ability to rest down and feel at home.

The individual learns to understand how they react, respond, think and feel, and what is going on when they contract and feel bad or anxious. Therapy helps people learn to understand why they feel this way, ways to manage these feelings that lead to confidence, calmer states of mind, and a more comfortable, happier life.

I have a special interest in anxiety, and the link between anxiety and depression. I also work with addiction and eating disorders.

Psychotherapy attempts to integrate the body and mind, I combine psychodynamic approaches to therapy with an understanding and inclusion of how we experience states in the body.

Anxiety and the triggering of trauma can be crippling , and many people have difficulty with self help techniques, or have difficulty doing them on our own, or just find them ineffective when done in isolation, and when we can’t do them they just make us feel worse. Psychotherapy uses the relationship to help the change and growth become internalised within the person.

People who experience trauma and anxiety often find this work helpful because they are often manifested through the body without understanding. Psychotherapy utilises the therapeutic relationship to explore issues, and to slowly rewire the nervous system so that the trauma and anxiety are not experienced in the same way anymore.

All of that said, psychotherapy is hard work. I do not believe in quick fixes and I do not have a magic wand. Therapy is often challenging and hard work, but it is usually also very rewarding. I have worked with many people who have made really significant changes in their lives and felt a lot better for doing the work.


COUNSELLING


Counselling is usually related to more immediate life issues rather than deep old issues, such as coping with a big change, stressful life situations, it helps people to gain understanding and build resources to cope with things.


COACHING


Coaching helps with more specific goal oriented issues – issues at work, getting a specific project underway, tax done, getting marketing done, management and leadership development, business development etc.
