During pregnancy the body goes through many stages of change these are both structural and hormonal. Women may experience many symptoms starting in the first trimester such nausea, morning sickness, headache, general fatigue or dizziness.

As the pregnancy progresses and the belly grows the extra weight puts the body under more strain as it alters the centre of gravity into a forward shift, this alters the spinal curves and hormones that are released soften the surrounding and supporting muscles and ligaments this affects the whole body. These changes may cause mechanical stress or strain on the musculoskeletal system resulting in pain or discomfort.

We use pregnancy massage, stretching, gentle joint movements and pelvic balancing to help provide you a comfortable and enjoyable pregnancy.

The most typical complaints associated with pregnancy and that Osteopathy can help with are:
  • Pregnancy Lower back and buttock pain
  • Sciatica (pain down the leg)
  • Neck, shoulder and mid back pain
  • Headaches
  • Groin pain or discomfort
  • Discomfort whilst sleeping
  • Pelvic Instability Syndrome
  • Sacro-iliac joint pain (SIJ pain)
  • Carpal Tunnel Syndrome
  • Pelvic floor weakness or incontinence

IS IT SAFE TO HAVE OSTEOPATHIC TREATMENT DURING PREGNANCY?

Absolutely! In fact you should be receiving Osteopathic treatment during pregnancy. Pregnancy places a great deal of strain on a woman’s body, particularly the back and the pelvic region, so it is very important to ensure your wellbeing is looked after throughout this stage of your life. At Middle Park Osteopathic Clinic, we offer a safe, specialised service for pregnant women which ensures you are comfortable at all times and provides effective relief from previous complaints as well as pregnancy-related pain and discomfort. Our Osteopaths can help with many pregnancy or labour related symptoms.

SHOULD I HAVE POST NATAL OSTEOPATHIC TREATMENT FOLLOWING THE BIRTH OF MY NEWBORN?

Yes. Labour can cause serious spinal and pelvic misalignment. As the body remains tender for quite some time after giving birth we apply the same gentle techniques to help ease you back to your previous physical condition. ¨Call and ask our team of qualified Melbourne Osteopaths to find out when it may be appropriate to commence treatment after the delivery of your new born.
