Myotherapy
Myotherapy is a form of massage that utilises a variety of treatment methods including trigger point therapy, massage, corrective exercises, stretching and dry needling. Myotherapy aims to assess, treat and to effectively manage musculoskeletal conditions which may cause pain and muscular dysfunction; the aim of myotherapy is to optimise mobility and movement.
Myotherapy treatments will concentrate on the underlying cause of pain as opposed to simply working on symptom relief, thus producing more effective, quicker and lasting results. Utilising a range of techniques myotherapy will restore and maintain the normal integrity of the soft tissue structures including tendons, muscles, fascia and ligaments.
Myofascial Dry Needling
Myofascial Dry Needling (MDN) is when a thin filament (acupuncture) needle is inserted into the skin and muscle directly at a myofascial trigger point. The needles is utilised to overstimulate the pain and mechnorecptors in the muscle and the nervous system, commonly producing a reflex twitch and response causing the muscle to relax.
Most clients do not feel the insertion of the needle. The twitch response produces a very slight and brief pain response that clients often refer to as a small electrical shock or slight cramping sensation. This is the most desirable and effective response as it causes the muscle to relax quickly.
You may experience some slight tenderness or fatigue post dry needling however this should span for no longer than a few hours – one or two days.
