What is Cupping Therapy?

Cupping is an ancient Chinese method used for causing local congestion. A partial vacuum is created in cups placed on the skin either by means of heat or suction. This draws up the underlying tissue. When the cup is left in place on the skin for a few minutes, blood stasis is formed and healing takes place.

How Does Cupping Work?

Cupping therapy is the best way of opening meridians of the body. Meridians are the conduits in the body through which energy flows to every part of the body and through every organ and tissue. When meridians are opened, it allows invigorating energy to travel through the whole length of the body.

What Are The Common Conditions Cupping Therapy is Used For?

One of the key uses of cupping is in the treatment of coldness in the body. Cupping is thought to expel the coldness by releasing external factors, including wind, damp, and cold.

Conditions which can benefit from cupping include:
  • Headache
  • Back Pain
  • Joint & Muscular Pain
  • Infertility
  • Sexual Disorders
  • Rheumatic Diseases
  • Hypertension
  • Breast Enhancement
  • Bed Wetting
  • Common Colds & Flu
  • Insomnia
  • Stroke
  • Fever
  • Constipation & Diarrhoea
  • Chest Pain
  • Asthma
  • Blood Disorders

What Are The Benefits to Cupping Therapy?

Cupping is used by our practitioners to treat colds, gastro-intestinal disorders, lung diseases (especially chronic cough and asthma), lung infections, and problems in the internal organs.

It is also used to treat pain in muscles and joints, particularly on the back and paralysis. Cupping promotes local blood supply that will nourish the muscles and skin and allow toxins to be carried away.

Cupping has also been found to affect the body up to four inches into the tissues, causing tissues to release toxins, activate the lymphatic system, clear colon blockages, help activate and clear the veins, arteries and capillaries, activate the skin, clear stretch marks and improve varicose veins.

Massage cupping is also effective in treating cellulite. A light suction provides drainage, while heavier application can be used to stimulate circulation and loosen adhesions.

What Does Cupping Feel Like?

Cupping is generally not painful. It is the best deep tissue massage available. Most patients report significant improvement after a cupping treatment.

After cupping treatment, it may leave a bruise or mark on the skin. The colour of the mark will indicate the condition inside your body, such as purple colour indicates heat, while white colour indicates cold.

Sometimes it may cause one or several blisters which indicates fluid retention inside your body. The bruise or blister will disappear in two to three days.

How Many Treatments Will I Need?

Treatment plans are based on each patient's individual needs, depth and duration of disease. Our experienced practitioners will give you a prognosis and treatment plan at your first visit. Our goal is to help you feel better as soon as possible.
