What is Myotherapy?

Myotherapy is the assessment, management and the treatment of musculoskeletal conditions, which may cause muscular dysfunction and pain thus affecting mobility and movement. Myotherapists use a broad range of methods to assist in the restoration and the maintenance of the correct integrity of the soft tissue structures of the body (tendons, muscles, fascia and ligaments).

Trigger points that are found deep within muscles are an example of muscle dysfunction that can cause local tenderness, deep aching pain, referred pain limiting flexibility and strength. Using palpation skills Myotherapists can highlight trigger points and deactivate them using a range of soft tissue manipulation methods.

Muscular dysfunction can caused by trauma, misuse or overload of muscles arising from sporting, occupational or recreational activities.
