Scoliosis is a lateral (sideways) curvature of the spine which gives the appearance that a person is leaning to one side. The curvature can occur in the mid or lower back. Symptoms of scoliosis include one shoulder being higher than the other, one hip being higher than the other, the head not being centered over the body, one shoulder blade protruding, a waistline that is flat on one side, pain the back, limbs or abdomen, and leaning to one side. Treatment options include surgery, a back brace, observation, chiropractic, yoga, and acupuncture.
