Our 90-minute yoga classes are calm, gentle sessions which perfectly complement some of the more strenuous and challenging courses on the Green Apple Wellness Centres class schedule. Yoga classes are conducted by Sharon Bryce with many years experience who will guide you as you learn stretching, breathing and relaxation exercises to enhance your physical and mental wellbeing.
What is Yoga?
Yoga is an ancient philosophy based on the idea that stilling the mind ultimately leads to spiritual enlightenment. Through physical exercises which help calm the thoughts, yoga practitioners hope to gain inner contentment and awareness of the self and its place in the world.
Although yoga originates from ancient values and beliefs, its physical practice exercises to control breathing, move the body and calm the mind has great appeal for those of us who look for some respite from the frantic, materialistic world we live in today.
What youll learn from yoga classes at Green Apple Wellness Centre
At our classes youll learn about the physical aspects of yoga and youll have the supervision of a highly experienced teacher as you practice gentle but challenging exercises that focus on flexibility, breathing and relaxation.
Muscles and joints can become tight, inflexible and even painful as a result of a sedentary lifestyle and many people start yoga classes as a way of improving their physical flexibility. As you learn and practise yoga exercises which gently stretch your muscles, they start to release tension and become supple. With increased flexibility you gain a greater range of movement, your posture improves and you typically experience renewed levels of energy and strength.
When our daily lives are filled with stress and activity, we may develop poor breathing habits, tending to take fast, shallow breaths and using oxygen inefficiently. At our yoga classes, youll learn to focus on breath awareness and youll practice breathing techniques which fully exercise your lungs, so that oxygen and other vital nutrients are delivered to the bodily organs where they are needed.
The physical activities and exercises that you learn and practise at yoga classes require you to concentrate absolutely and intensely on your body. This physical focus, with its emphasis on the here and now, can help to quieten insistent thoughts, create a break from stressors and soothe the mind.
