Acupuncture is one of the main aspects of the Wu Da Liao Fa or the 5 Main Methods of Treatment. Here at Health Spring TCM we only use sterilised, single-use, disposable acupuncture needles which generally range between 0.18 and 0.25mm thick – which is roughly the thickness of a single strand of hair. The length of needles differs depending on the area and reason for Acupuncture.

How does Acupuncture work?

Acupuncture utilises fine needles to balance the flow of vital energy (Qi) which flows throughout the entire body via a series of channels that the ancient Chinese people mapped out more than 5,000 years ago.

These channels are what we call meridians, interconnect the range of body parts; lower, upper, external, internal, muscles, organs or viscera and sense organs. Fine single-use disposable needles are inserted into specific points along the channels and in tense areas within the muscles to release pain and tension, enhance circulation and to balance the Qi of the body for wellbeing and health.

In TCM we say any type of discomfort or pain is a blockage in the circulation of blood and/or qi. Acupuncture needles utilises with other effective treatment methods work to restore the circulation and flow of blood and qi, harmonising and balancing the body, eliminating circulation stasis and this sickness and pain.
