Swedish Relaxation Massage
A gentle and soothing massage to help you let go of stress and reconnect with your inner self.
Remedial / Deep Tissue / Sports Massage
Remedial massage focuses on the deeper layers of muscle tissue, targeting more specific areas of tightness and restriction. It works to release the chronic patterns of tension in the body, to allow for tissue detoxification and healing.
Ideal for sports people, chronic pain syndromes, injuries and those with severe muscle tension.
Tui Na - Chinese Remedial Massage
Tui Na is an Oriental bodywork therapy that has been used in China for thousands of years. With the application of massage and acupressure along the meridians and acupressure points, Tui Na moves stagnation and establishes a more harmonious flow of Ki (vital energy) through the body.
Tui Na massage tends to focus on specific problems in the body, stimulating the meridians relating to the troubled area. It is by nature a fairly firm massage, though your therapist will tailor the treatment to suit your individual needs.
Manual Lymphatic Drainage (MLD)
MLD is a very specific technique that stimulates the bodies lymphatic system. The lymphatic system is the bodies first line of defence against disease and infection; it transports metabolic waste, excess fluid, toxins and bacteria out of the body.
An MLD involves light mechanical stretching of the connective tissue. This moves the lymphatic fluid under the skin towards the lymphatic nodes, where fluid is filtered. An MLD is great for detoxification, reducing oedema due to injury or lymphedema and is great pre and post surgery. An MLD will also improve the bodies immune system, and (according to research conducted by Bruno Chikly) the body will produce 30% more immunocompetent cells post MLD treatment.
Lomi Lomi (Hawaiian Kahuna) Massage
Lomi Lomi originated from the South Pacific and was traditionally used during rites of passage, as a transformational massage and healing system. What makes Lomi Lomi such as special style is the combination of rhythm, breath, energy and massge, which ultimately leads to very powerful releases on all levels.
This treatment is done primarily using the entire arm span. Long flowing strokes sweep across the span of the body, moving stagnation at all levels - emotionally, physically and spiritually. Lomi Lomi can be practised as relaxation or deep tissue massage.
Indian Head Massage
This ancient technique has been practiced for over a thousand years in India, being passed down from generation to generation. It involves a sequence of energy balancing techniques, lymphatic drainage, acupressure points, stretching and general massage to the shoulders, neck, face and scalp. The techniques work on both the physical and ethereal body to soothe and relax the nervous system, stimulate the circulation and lymph, and relieve joint and muscle stiffness.
Indian Head Massage is an excellent therapy for tension headaches and eyestrain, both of which are common in the modern computer age.
Acupuncture, Chinese Massage and Chinese Herbal Medicine
Acupuncture and Chinese Medicine is an ancient medical system that takes a deep understanding of the laws and patterns of nature and applies them to the human body. It is a complete medical system that has been practised for thousands of years.
The true foundation of Chinese Medicine is "Ki", which loosely translates as vital or life energy. Ki is considered to be the force that animates and informs all things. In the human body Ki flows through the meridians (energy pathways) creating a continous circuit linking internal organs and connecting the interior with the exterior. Disease occurs when there is a deficiency or excess of internal organs and disruption to this flow in the meridians.
How Does It Work?
By stimulating key points on the body with needles (acupuncture), Chinese therapeutic massage (Tui Na), Chinese herbal medicine and cupping (suction) internal organs are tonified, excesses are dispersed, blockages are removed and imbalances corrected.
At the heart of Chinese Medicine is the tenet that the root cause of illness, not the symptoms, must be treated. Therefore it's a holistic approach as it views every aspect of the person - mind, body, spirit and emotions - as part of one complete circle.
